i have entered a large local show on sun, i sent the entry off a few weeks ago, but i've hit a problem with the boy's right canter........shall i still go? he's entered in the novice class, but i think i will look a right numpty and get chucked out due to being a crap rider....i would like to go and give him experience as it's a busy show, close in size to counties and very busy...i think the problem stems from his inhand showing as he likes to curl his head to the left, his left canter has improved greatly...teeth back and saddle fine...

I also say sod the canter (but keep working on it).

Go enjoy the experience for both of you.

Right, I have chosen "sod the canter" lol, but will explain a bit;

Why do you want to go to this show? Is it to have fun, have a good day out, and get a bit of experience. Or, is it because you want to sell your horse, and have him seen by prospective buyers? If it is the first one, then I agree with piebaldsparkle (and my vote, lol) and just go, have a good time, don't mention it to the judge, and learn from the experience. If you are thinking of selling him in the near future, then perhaps wait until another day, school him on bit more at home before taking him out.

Personally I think that you should just go - you never know, he might surprise you on the day, and if he doesn't, what have you lost?

Take him and sod the canter, go and enjoy it!
I had to laugh at the last option! Bit drastic lol!
You'll be fine, I bet he'll show you up and be perfect!

Sod the canter!! The first biggish show I took my mare to she decided the aid for canter was actually the aid to show her party piece of bucking while running backwards and nearly squashed the judge. We got a 'Special' rossette

Don't worry about the canter and don't tell the judge. In my first showing class on my horse our right canter lead was all wrong but we came 3rd! Go for it, have fun and let us know how you get on, even if does go a bit wrong keep smiling and stay calm.

sod the canter, don't tell the judge and try to have fun! I am hoping to try a prelim dressage again soon, but I know I will be nervous about the canter so we may just trot the movements - we will get no marks for those bit, but so long as we come away with out confidence intact that's what counts!

Go, have fun!!

My ponio flatly refuses to canter on the correct leg on the left rein 90% of the time. I took him to a show and entered a Best rider class, expecting to get chucked out of the ring...my pony decided that, actually, he'd go on the correct leg!! So don't tell the judge, because it might not be a problem on the day

well, as you are obviously crap at all things Equestrian, why don't you let someone have him who actually knows what they're doing???

Definitely go! And dont tell the judge, just give it whirl and you never know he might go onto the right lead. (Make sure you ask for canter on a corner and just pray. Have a great time and report back please!

that would probably be the best solution for him as he could go on to do very well, with me he will just be wasted and ruined....
