Oh I feel so jumbled up and need some opinions..........

Several weeks ago I moved the skanky tbs to a new livery yard. Have been really happy there but a couple of weeks ago we were told that we wouldn't be getting the grazing that we'd been promised and had to stay on the fields the horses had been grazing all winter which are pretty bare.

As the owner of three big boys, good grazing is a big thing for me. Horses are still in at night which although it's killing me, I'm persevering with. The other problem is that everytime it rains the horses are kept in. The problem is that I work full time so have to decide first thing and I can't be popping up and down as it's a good 25 min journey.

Two of the boys cope ok with this tooing and froing but one is getting really wound up kicking the walls and trashing his bed walking round and round his stable, he's also pulled something his neck chucking himself around.

This morning I was up the yard at 5:45am and the weather was fine so I chucked them out having seen the weather forecast as showers yesterday, it's now lagging it down and I feel I'm going to get it in the neck later.

I just don't know what to do. The yard is lovely, the hacking fantastic but with the turnout problems and distance I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it.............but the thought of moving again makes me want to cry.

What do you think??

Have a word with the owner. What's the reason you can't go on the new grazing? Although in fairness the fact you're not getting what was said before you moved on doesn't bode well for future issues

poor you i was in a similar situation and moved a month ago..best thing i did and the
y are soooo much happier the hassle was worth it!

I would speak to the owner / Yard manager and see if you can find a solution but if you are working there's no way you want to have them in to much in the summer you need to recharge your battery's after the winter and enjoy them I would look for somewhere else I think.

this is what would concern me too, if they start restricting other facilities what are you left with?! the yard may be lovely but it's not making you happy and it's stressing your horses:( i would have to move, a few days of upheaval is better than months of misery!

I'd move. I really couldn't handle having to keep my horse in every time it rained! I am convinced that being kept in is really bad for horses' mental health - even if they are all standing round by the gate, they can still move around if they want to. I stable mine over night in winter and he's out 24/7 in the summer - I wouldn't have it any other way.

Move, as previous poster said, even though ours are quite often hanging around the gate, at least they have the option and I don't agree with in all the time either, spec I would be chucking myself around stuck in bed all day.

Thanks for your input all. You've really helped and confirmed what I suspected. I will have a word the the yard owner to make a last ditch attempt to resolve things but I know things have to change. Only problem is where the hell do I go? It's so hard finding somewhere round here, espcially for three big tbs (one of whom is 18hh). A lot of people take the mick out of me as I've moved them several times but I just keep getting promised the earth and they never deliver. I just want what's best for the horses, is that so wrong?

I was also really pleased to read others say that you need a rest. I feel pathetic for saying it sometimes but I do. I'm shattered. This has been the first winter I've been on my own with three horses, a house and a full time job and I'm done in. I want them out.......

Next time try & speak to current liveries as well as yo. My yard & one nearby both have all year turnout with the stipulation it may be limited in very wet weather. On my yard that actually means if we have a very wet winter he asks that they stay in at night. On the other yard its usually turnout in a small paddock while you muck out from mid dec to mid feb.

I'd move. I had 3 weeks of hell moving mine last time and hated it, but knew that long term it was the best thing I could do for both of us.

She wasn't happy at last yard and unsettling a bit more to move was worth it when she got home and just breathed a sigh of relief.
