Hi

Stupidly put this in the wrong section to begin with! I'm looking to purchase a little 3.5 tonne lorry and after years of driving bigger 7.5 tonne boxes I am not sure which is the most sturdy and reliable type to buy. The Renault ones seem to be very popular but I really do want to buy one that will give my horses the best journey possible. If size is a factor will be mainly travelling one 16hh but might end up with a 16.3hh too occasionally!

Many thanks for reading my post!

I doubt you will get a 3.5 ton that has the payload for two full sized horses .
I went from a 7.5 to a lovely 6.5 with nice living and a slide out I that's gives me 1.8 payload .
I had mine weighed with a driver full of water and fuel so I know I have enough for two horses .
Mines on an iveco daily which is easy to drive and very economic verses the 7.5 .

Hi
Yes I just googled weights so really need a 4.5 t which is rare! For one horse and the 3.5 tonne option what would people recommend?

So far I've only seen Renaults. They like them cos of the depth they provide and they do seem very roomy inside... that said my horse is only about 15hh and pretty compact and light framed.

I have a 3.5 Boss which is a brilliant lorry, other than Boss, Bloomfields would be the other company that I would have gone for and would recommend. My youngster travels brilliantly and mostly very quietly in this, he is around 16.2 and has lots of room. He wasn't so happy traveling in my Foxy Twin. Be very careful with the companies and have a look around them being built if you can. If you look for Freddie Gover Horseboxes on Facebook, he put some very scary photos of some other 3.5ton boxes that he has in for repair including a length of mdf under carpet being disguised as metal for the bulkhead!

I drove a Bloomfields recently was extremely impressed. It felt extremely solid. Had a full height partition rather than a breast bar. It drove very smoothly and horse travelled well in it. I would love one if I had the money.

Have also driven various Movano/Renaults and they seem to give a decent horse area.

I have a Bloomfoelds and highly recommend. It had the full height stallion partitions, so no breast bar. You can evacuate them out of the rear if necessary. It is on a Renault Master, lovely box all round, especially as it is an auto, as I have left leg issues.
