Something very strange is happening to Lexi's colour.
Her mum was bright chestnut, her dad was very dark bay.
When I bought her as a 3 year-old she was bright red chestnut. I don't remember any patches of anything else then.
Since then I have noticed darker brown areas in her coat - particularly obvious when she is clipped. Last winter the biggest one was on her flank and about the size of my hand.
This year she is 6. Her summer coat is coming in and she definitely has a dappled dark brown undertone to her coat. Makes her look dirty when the light catches her - I'm not too keen on it!!
Has anyone else had a chestnut horse change colour? Will it get worse as she gets older (that seems to be the trend at the moment)?
