the window which he gazes out of most of the day and the other half is where the door to his stable is (its a full door not a stable door)... )

Open window He either sleeps all day or gazes out of the window and his halyage is at the other side of the stable so hell be walking to his haylage then back to the window

Carrots&Mints - your horse needs to go out. Your problem is not that he's messy, it is that he needs to be out and able to move around for a decent turnout every day. Ideally with company. Sleeping all day is not a good thing at all, consider the possibility that it does not mean he is relaxed, it can be a coping mechanism, just as a behaviour like weaving might be.
Forget the bedding, have a look at the daily welfare of your horse.

Our mare is disgusting....having tried every option the cheapest and cleanest and quickest is matting with a couple of flaps of straw....sweep it all out on a morning and let it dry during the day and pop clean down before she comes in.
Cheap, quick and clean.

Wood pellets are amazing! my horse was so dirty on shavings that I finally decided to change him over, and I wish I had done it sooner.
