My girl seems to be the most disgusting creature ever :rolleyes: when she comes in she will not lie or even stand on her bed, she stands at the front of her stable by the door, and will mess where she stands, so when she pees it splashes up her legs, and then she's left standing in a puddle, obviously if she's in overnight i will bring her bed all the way to the door to try and stop her from having to stand in it all night and i have tried rubber matting, but then all the mess just gets underneath (yuk)

Are mares generally more messy than geldings (ive only had geldings before) or is my girl a one off?
 
No, I do think mares are more disgusting than geldings. When I worked at a yard they seemed harder to muck out and there was a lot more wee! Saying that my gelding is a filthy pig but he is grey so does it on purpose :@
 
I had a grey 17yo gelding who was disgusting! He only had a small bed however every night I would have to empty the whole thing! And... He was a grey so it didn't help that he contstantly rolled and had a poo stain on his stomach!

Nope your not....I had one mare many years ago and vowed never to have one again as I couldnt be doing with the PMT and disgusting toilet habits so stuck with geldings (my last gelding would poo and wee in one corner and sleep in the other) ....until now.

I've got another mare and she is still as disgusting as the first (although I love her dearly and wouldn't change her for the world) she doesn't care where she goes to the toilet. She will quite happily pee all over the yard and this is straight after coming in from the field, poo right in the stable doorway, she sleeps in it, buries it, does whatever she can to make mucking out a joy!
 
I have only ever had geldings and mine is so clean.. perfect lil row of poo and a patch of wee in the middle and you can usually still see where the flat patch is where hes been asleep.. my mums gelding however is gross.. a box walker and seems to poo up the wall.. on the wall through the bars to my stable and all sorts.. so geldings can be messy tikes too!

My gelding is cremello and my late gelding mainly grey, and unfortunately for me this gorgeous girly is also grey, so when she gets over her fear of lying down god help me
 
Mine is a messy toad, but she has got a lot better after 2 winters in. She's on straw as its included in my livery and would probably cost me a fortune on shavings. Her stable is huge but a horse sized deep straw bed at the back seems to work the best. She is skewbald and very rarely goes to bed without a rug with a neck when its cool enough!
 
Nope, not all mares are like that.
TF is spotless in her box - a neat patch of droppings there in the morning (or evening if in during daytime). Pee's in same place - lovely tidy girl :)
Previous mares Little Fuzzy & Big Fuzzy were also pretty good too, tho BF did stir the bed up if 'something' disturbed her, but on the whole was easy to do.
FLF 'can' be a messy soul, but again only if there are stressful things going on, otherwise also droppings at the back & pee's there too. If stressful, then yes, can pee near the front & turn out & stand in it, but happens less & less these days....
 
In my experience geldings have been the messy gits, churning it up, pooing up walls and in water buckets, burying etc etc.

Getting a mare (she comes soon) hope she's not a pig pony!

I think it depends on the horse tho, you get messy geldings and messy mares.
 
I have two clean mares and a gelding that does his best to stir all his clean bedding with the dirty bedding - so it's all dirty. *le sigh*

Thank goodness they aren't in very often as he gets through bedding like it's going out of fashion.
