Hi,
We have two lurcher puppies, eleven weeks old which we have had since eight weeks. They are lovely, growing well, come when called and have definitely filled the gaping hole left by the passing of my old boy. Trouble is they are filthy in the house! They both go when they are in the garden and are praised for it, but five minutes after coming in they will quite happily pee on the floor. They have a crate for naptimes and both quite happily foul this too which is gross.
Where am I going wrong? I've generally just had Danes before and never had any trouble house training them? Is it because there is two together?
Help, my kitchen is becoming a toilet!!

You need to watch them very carefully, pups usually give strong warning signs that they are about to toilet. You also need to be very regimented about their access to food and water and times. If they take a big drink, it is going to come out the other end.

Make sure you are thoroughly cleaning the areas where they go as they will return to the same place if the smell is coming through.

A biological cleaner in a spray bottle (available from pet shops) is the best way to tackle the smell! Often they smell where they peed once and pee there again! With Lily we used to take her outside straight after she ate, had a drink, had a nap or had a play, and praise her when she peed/pooed outside, but just ignored it when she peed or pooed inside and cleaned it up. Unfortunately praising her when she went outside lead to her "squatting" and pretending to pee so she got praise! She grew out of that eventually though :P! We still praise her now (shes 10 months) out of habit I guess and she looks at us as if to say "yeah, I'm peeing, it's not that impressive..."!
Good luck, house training can feel like it takes forever but you will get there!

Forgot to add, if you see your puppies are about to poo in the house, you can often distract them (jump around, make exciting noises) and get them to follow you into the garden in enough time! You look like a looney but it saves you having to clean poo off your carpet!

See now we have all this covered already. Floor is spot cleaned with a biological cleaner after accidents and washed every day with a biological washing powder to remove dog odours anyway. They go out regularly and are seen to go and praised for it when they do. Thing is they come in and two minutes later they are peeing on the floor, no sniffing, circling nothing. Have to say I have never met dogs that are quite happy to pee in their bed and lay in it despite the door being open. OH is on his last nerve already, not sure how much more he'll put up with!

Have you tried telling them off for it? I know its a complete no no nowadays but for many years dogs got told off for peeing/pooing inside and all seemed fairly well adjusted.
I got an adult rescue lurcher many years ago and she was clean except overnight. After a week of coming down to find an enormous poo I shouted at her and chased her round the kitchen. She was 100% after that.

Our Spinone was like this, and really gave no warning when she was about to pee, just stopped and went, would also wee in her crate. She just grew out of it but she took a very long time over a year until she was 90o/o clean, we tried just about everything.

Ok, so I took the pups to the garden, watched them while they went, praised them and played ball for a bit. Brought them in, two mins later a pile of poo appears on the floor! Cue me growling 'You bloody puppy' as no evidence of who did it exactly. My evil stare was enough to have them both scooting for cover.
I felt very guilty over it, but today there have been no indoor poos and only two pees! Hurrah, maybe it's sinking in!

Persist! You've only had them three weeks. Keep up the praise when they go outside and teach them the command to go out and perform-take them out, dance like someone said, make them follow, tell them the command when they actually go. Ours now fly out of the dog flap when told to do wees and poos. :o
