At the risk of sounding a bit harsh, why do people bother with the 'hi i am new here' posts anyway? To me it seems to be an opportunity to 'show off' pics of horses and themselves riding??? Lets face it we all think our nags are stunning in their own way and it seems like its an opportunity to get a load of people telling you how lovely your pony is???
There must be 1000's and 1000's of people on here, thank heavens everyone doesnt post to say hello, would take us all an hour and a half to get to a proper problem - which is what this forum is all about surely??
I also think sometimes its easier to be 'incognito' on here, every so often (or more often than not) you end up getting criticised in your posts and its easier if people don't know who you are otherwise you will end up at the local show being pointed at as the one who was cruel to their horse because they tied it to their car door on the way home because they didnt want to lead it as they had a blister or something similar???
I Have to say im a newbie to this site and i have posted a thread asking for help/advce on leg wraps/boots and only had 1 person reply, it cant be anything to do with the pic i posted as im in correct attire for what i was doing.
I'm experinced and qualified in equine management but thought i would ask for advice to see if anyone else came up with some good ideas, but i was bitterly dissapointed with the reaction.
I still look at the forum but dont often bother to post a reply and no point posting a new thread.

They tell me not to say 'hi' to newbies, for some reason.

Have to say OP, if I were said new person, I would feel SO awkward about this thread - how embarrassing to be thrust into the spotlight like this!![]()
Thanks DougalJ, i will pop on over.
Yes Jemima, i do understand he has to learn to stand still but been as he is only 18 months old colt, there is a time limit on this.
Its nice to know you read my thread, although i wasnt asking advice on how to teach my horse, the question was regarding best leg wraps/boots to use and any other cleaning tips.
Generally a yearling has about a 15 min attention span and learning capabilities so after bathing him this time has well expired to then try and put bandages on. I mention not putting bandages on so that people wouldnt suggest this as an option in keeping his legs clean.
As you can see by the pic, he clearly has no trouble standing still when asked otherwise he wouldnt have earned those sashes, judges constantly comment on how well behaved he is for his age and he is often the only horse standing still in a younstock class and behaving like a pro going around the ring. x

but but i love looking at other peoples horses having none of my own atm i thought H&H was all about the horses silly me
its like me walking into a shop and saying in a loud voice 'hi I have never shopped here before look at me' and then getting in a grump that no-one said hi back and instead just looked at me like I was slightly mad and giving me a wide berth!?
I think that the professional forum posters on here forget that some people have never used forums before, and are not familiar with posting. I had a couple of scratchy comments when I came on here a few years ago about a post and I didn't use the forum for a long while because of it. I would see the forum more as a school not a shop, and for the person that's comes along to introduce herself, potentially has a problem with her horse and wants to post about the problem is then pounced on with sharp tones from other forum users.

I starting using [website], a small but growing group of friendly equiners.
As far as I am aware, you are not allowed to advertise on this forum. That's the 3rd time today alone you have recommended that site!
Some forums encourage introductory posts from newbies - in fact I know one that won't let newbies stay unless they DO introduce themselves. Maybe the OP is or has been a member of one of these, and felt that it was the correct thing to do.
