Disappointing winter yard/ everyday riding jackets

Just another thought - if you have a Go Outdoors - camping shop -anywhere near you have a look in there, they sell loads of stuff for hiking and outdoor activities - not too expensive either - they also stock some riding gear (although tends to be the pricier stuff) and trailer accessories. Might be worth a look

If you live in the North East, then the Barbour Factory Shop in South Shields (just by the Tyne Tunnel) is an Aladdin's cave for coats - all types but often some of their riding ones as well at bargain prices! It's an addiction of mine!! :-)

Ive had lots of jackets over the years but the one thats really been quite handy over winter is a Shires one, its navy with red fleece lining. Waterproof with nice features like storm cuffs and a proper hood etc. Its meant for riding in so comfy and warm.

Otherwise OP, can't you just buy a ski type jacket? They're warm and waterproof, yet fitted (not puffy)? Probably a lot cheaper than anything with "equestrian" in the title too...

I love my MH jacket, its great. Apart from that, I have a really good Cox Swain jacket (and OH has a different model). Some of them would be fine to ride in and you can pick them up cheapish on amazon. I don't much care for thick, padded jackets as I prefer to layer underneath.

The best winter coat I have ever bought came from Halfords for £20! It's a fluorescent yellow, waterproof, windproof, thick padded bomber style jacket! It's done 2 seasons out on 5 lots a day 6 days a week and the elbows have just started to leak! Best value for money you can get! None of this silly "Equestrian" stuff for 5x the price!

This but mine was issued to me by work so was free. I work for a waste management company so look like a mounted bin (wo)man (our company logo is in 6" high letters across the back). I'd rather be warm and mildly embarrassed than freezing and stylish.

I have one of these but a) I hate riding in bomber style jackets and b) I found the cuffs very irritating, especially when they got wet and the zip went really quickly. It is warm though, I still use it occasionally.

I like coats that are fairly fitted to the waist then go outwards, especially for riding in, with decent vents. However since I am horseless ATM and its highly likely that when I find one it won't be backed, I really don't need to worry about riding in it too much so I am going to TK Maxx and just going to buy something to do the job for being outside in the cold, otherwise I'd have caved and bought the expensive and thin but stylish and well pocketed Pikeur jobbie and worn extra jumpers because I am shallow.

Thanks for all the replies :)
