Before 8 this morning, OH got a call from another driver to say two horses were on the bypass. That's not too far from our place, and I grabbed up a couple of headcollars and dashed off to see if I could of assistance if they weren't ours....

Luckily they weren't! Two youngsters by the looks of things and a nice couple had stopped, and used leadreins to make halters. The head collars were welcomed!

They had to leave witch was perfectly understandable and I stayed with the officer there are they were a bit of a handful.....and it was a tad busy...

Meanwhile, other officers were trying to track down possible owners, and I got onto the phone and asked folk to spread the word, got it on the radio etc etc (whilst still hanging onto the lunatic who was getting more and more frantic) my sis brought our pony's bridle which made a huge difference! I'd already been bitten and jumped on a zillion times already. After about an hour and a bit, and no luck.....I suggested (seeing as local horse rescue said they couldn't help and neither could the RSPCA) they come to my place, a couple of miles up the road, but to get there we had to go up a very busy road.....

A lovely chap brought us both tea (very welcome!) and Officer John (first name terms at this point!) said they were sorting a rolling road block to get us there, the poor ponies were obviously not used to traffic and we wanted to get there in one piece....

Sooooo off we went (John had the quieter one, not used to handling horses but doing very well :D) with a patrol car ahead and one behind, holding back the traffic, thank god, this chap (nicknamed Knobber at this point!) was doing a merry old dance on the end of the bridle...

Approaching the garage, he got a message to say a local instructor had offered to come and collect them and give them a stable for the night, hooray!

In the end, we met the lorry at the garage, coaxed them in and off they went, safe. :D

The horsey network had been awesome at offering suggestions, but also Lincolnshire Police were fab, concerned with the welfare of the ponies and other road users, could have been soooo nasty, that road is horrendous.....

They thanked me lots for lending a hand and bringing the head collars etc, but of course I stayed to help, I'd hope someone would do the same for my horses too. :)

This is the good bit, me and John needed a lift back to our vehicles, and as 300 cars a minute were going by, there was me, being helped into the back of a police car by an officer and he got in the back too! (the front seats were already occupied....)

A friend summed it up later when I had a reviving cup of tea at my instructors yard (lesson of course cancelled)

'Local teacher seen getting arrested....'

:D

Well done you and the police ...it's nice to hear a nice outcome and without the police being slagged off for a change.
I hope the ponies are ok and your not too battered and bruised from your bite.

Well, I thought my day was quite exciting but compared to yours it was positively dull.
Well done for getting involved and helping the ponies stay in one piece (and the motorists.)
Well done also to the policemen who put themselves out and had an impromptu lesson in horse handling.

Did anyone get a photo of you being driven away by the long arm of the law ?:D

What an exciting story. Glad no horses or people were hurt. I have always found the police to be realy helpful. They often have a thankless job. Well done all of you.

God, I hope not...

Also forgot to mention...

OH came and brought a haynet for the ponies whilst we were waiting in his recovery van, the officer thought it hilarious, a well-known recovery firm coming out to 'rescue' horses too....hahahaha!

:D

I wonder if Lincolnshire police are trained to deal with escaped horseys? I had one of mine get out in the middle of the night who was discovered munching the lawn of the local farrier (the irony of it was he had refused to do my horse as he was a 'crazy' tb!). The police came and got me, was fast asleep totally oblivous to the fact that half the village was up trying to figure out who this b***** horse belonged to. They could not have been better, guided me home with there car and helped secure the fence where he had got out...in the end it turned out some morons had been going round letting horses, cattle etc out so I think they had a pretty busy night!

I heard about this, have the owners been found? I heard they were seen crossing A158 just wragby side of last roundabout before dawn, police were contacted at that point. Where were they picked up?
Lincolnshire police have a trained large animal rescue team who are fantastic, if you get those guys you're in safe hands, wish all the forces have trained teams.

Not heard if they found the owners, but at least they were going to be safe in stables tonight. We were on Bunkers Hill, right next to the roundabout with them, then headed up the A158 and met the lorry at the BP garage. :D

Well done DS and the local constabulary! Hope your trodden on and bit bits are OK! Glad the horses are heading home safely, what a great outcome :)

Isn't it just? They were really pretty beasties, after being nibbled, I was getting quite attached to them!

...it was so worrying though, thinking about what might have happened. :(
