Went to see a horse yesterday that i found out about through a freind of a friend and it was awful i felt so bad so just had to post to vent my frustrations, tea & chocolate biscuits for those who read!!

Last week i got told of a 15" Apaloosa gelding for sale rising 7 anyway having explained that i was looking for a good allrounder to be my first horse as an adult so needed to be a real confidence giver i thought i'd arrange to meet up and take a look (already hesitant as he was 7 and i was looking for a 10 + been there and done it), having explained i'd like to see him brought in from his field, groomed, tacked up, ridden etc all the usual things and then if i was happpy arrange for another date & time to may be ride him myself and bring my instructor and a well trusted friend.

So turned up at the stables to be greated with something that wasn't 15" and had been brought in from the field and ridden despite the above i was immediately concerned. Anyhow i asked a few more questions and got to know him he got spooked and was tied to a post & rail and pulled this out of the ground and generally flipped out as the post kept knocking his rump he hadn't been tied via a bit of string, i was fuming and could have left then but didnt as thought of the friend politics involved. The lady then offered to ride & tack him up and he was so well behaved however when she asked her OH to pass her hat he spooked again. We went for a wonder down the lane having a general conversation where she dropped it in to the conversation that he wasnt even 6, he was broken in at 2 and abused by the man that did, she had been letting people ride him who had allowed him to get away with bad habits, hadnt been professionally schooled. Wasnt sounding like the horse i had originally been told about, i felt so bad for the little mite he was only a baby still and had a rough start.

Any how cutting a long story short i made our excuses to leave and said i would be in touch, sat in the car with OH who knew what i was thinking and felt awful the poor little mite he wasnt the right horse for me which i knew straightaway but felt so sorry for him i could of taken him home and given him a lovely home.

Anyhow i feel better no i have that off my chest just need to text her and say no any advice on the correct wording / best way considering friend politics greatly appreciated, i was thinking somthing along the lines of

Hi thankyou for yesterday having given it a lot of thought over the weekend i have decided he isn't the right horse for me ... im feeling like i need to put a reason considering the friend link?? What would you say??

Im rambling so will shut up!! Thank you for reading and a cup a t awaits with copious chocolate biscuits for anyone who has read to here!! :D

Sounds like he was grossly misrepresented to you before the viewing. Don't feel bad, just keep the text short - thanks for your time but he isn't the horse for me. Any real friend woundn't expect you to take on a horse that is so far away from your requirements.

I'd be honest and say 'I'm a nervous rider and whilst your Appy is what I'd aspire to own in future, I want my first horse to be really safe and sensible to the point of ploddy'.
S :D

^ that :)
I think he just needs a confident owner who'll put some work into him.
There's plenty of plods around so donät feel as though you're obligated to take it futhur with a horse that's no doubt going to cause you problems.

Just say something like "Thank you for let me view your horse - he seems a lovely chap but I feel I need something a little older and more experienced, so I am afraid he is not the one for me. I wish you success in finding a lovely home for him."

Thanks all i shall text her this afternoon something along the lines of

Thankyou for your time yesterday having thought about it over night i have decided he is not what i am looking for at the moment, i need my horse to be a little older and experienced , i wish you all the best in the sale and finding a lovely new home for him.
