When are the blood tests due back?

Old owner sounds most unhelpful... will she continue denying all knowledge when you have two feet sticking out of the back?

'Unhelpful' is the most polite term for it!! There are a few other terms.. Phoned vet again today as she seems her normal self after yesterdays many trauma's to chase bloods and should be around next Tues..!! Hopefuly baby monitor will make things more relaxing anyway.

Yes I asked about urine testing at vets but got nowhere fast they just seem to be in no hurry at all. We have transport and could take her for a scan but the vet wasn't suggesting this as an option either...?

Ravenwood you know me so well, I just can't leave it alone!! Well after convincing myself after talking to old owner yet again it must be phantom I have been out doing the fun task of chopping up whats left of the bog we call our turnout into little padocks just in case and to try and save something green... Had another look under tail as udder looked slightly fuller (sorry Kerilli) and she now has milky mucas down leg and blood tinged/ darker mucas round vulva and on tail so this i'm guessing must still be mucas plug?? Other than that she is troughing down her hay and covered in mud so she seems fairly happy. Called another vet who said for £30 they could have scanned her and given immediate result- wish I had known this before spending £136 on bloods and rectal which still have no result for! Nevermind I suspect we will get proof one way or another soon...

Hi
Just come in on your epic i only live about 15 miles away from you my parents live in Belper. My vet AI'd our mare recently and they could have given you an answer straight away as they have a Stud Vet, highly recommend. I can only think of one equine vet in your area near Markeaton am i right ?
Will log in at intervals for the next update !

I purchased a wee foal test and used it on my mare and i got a broad line plus a very very faint line which when you read the instructions says this could be a positive but more a negative result as some mares can can produce this result

.
so now i'm sitting here in the same position as you my mare is huge.she has gone from having a neat belly but now looks like shes swallowed the little donkey in the field.
today when i went she was lying down groaning and heavy breathing then relaxing, to then trying to rub her bum on the fence but just gently swaying from side to side

she has got no bag but has like what looks like grains of salt sort of thing on her teats.
wish i knew how to post pics so we could compare as my mare is black as well.

I used a wee foal test on my mare at 125 days. I think if i remember correctly for an acurate result they can not be used past 300 days. With all your mares symptoms she must be well past 300. Good luck!!!!!!

i'm not talking about the wee foal test, i'm talking about the test that shows a spike in a certain hormone just before foaling. Julia_FSH and Nijinsky both know the one i'm talking about.
btw, i would tell the vet to forget about the bloods, this kind of delay for something so important is ridiculous imho, and that sounds v expensive too!
ah, having had a hunt about, it looks as if it is a milk test, not a urine test. you won't get a foal until the mare has milk to feed it!

I am sure everyone is getting bored of this by now but ...

Just bathed her as she was revolting covered in sand. Nipples are now facing inwards and there is a slight fullness to the udder. I have cleaned her behind and its definately mucas and ridiculously STICKY! Have put her tail in a bandage as it was horrible..

Can't believe your having to wait until next tuesday for the results i would tell them to forget it and keep the bill aswell

Hi again
I now know why its taking so long they do not have a specialist vet i only use them for height certificates they are more small animal than equine if you want the number of my vet she is brill and would put your mind at rest with one call out. I would consider the £50.00 well worth it. Please pm and i can give you full details.

Just been out and topped up her majesty's hay supply. After giving her a good scrub and with the tail bandage on it doesn't look like there is anymore mucas coming out so that stage seems to have passed. She is eating for England and no real udder change so nothing to report for now!

It will possibly be the longest thread on the breeding forum !
I hope we are still not going this time next week !

I am biting my nails - God knows what you must be doing??!!
Can't wait to hear the news of the birth of a strapping colt foal tomorrow....I will watch this space with interest!

Why don't you just call out a proper equine specialist with a scanner? It would put your mind at rest one way or another.

Infact, if she's as far along as you suspect, then I fail to understand why the vet that came out couldn't feel a foal...unless they had unusually small arms.

I bought a little mare that grew and grew after we bought her. I knew she'd run with a Rig, so decided to get her checked out just incase. Like your mare her lump was lopsided and sometimes seemed to move.

The equine vet came out armed with a scanner. It cost me £100 for the call out/consult/scan.

He had a feel, couldn't feel anything. Was 99% certain she wasn't in foal, but used the scanner to confirm his initial diagnosis. He was correct. She wasn't in foal.

He left me with a strict diet plan for her, even more strict than the plan I thought I'd got her on.

I'm happy to report she did get slim and has since stayed slim...thankfully.

I'm of the thought that "I'm not utterly convinced she is pregnant, but somehow I wouldn't be overly surprised if she does produce a foal either". On the fence, so to speak.

She definately is! Nothing much since pics this morning. She is absolutely huge from behind on both sides but other than that nothing new ...
Going to call out stud vet on Monday if no bloods back. Think the vet saying he felt 'something' but it was far forwards would follow the late foal theory and all the contractions and various other incidents must be the foal developing as we were/are very novice in all things breeding we have panicked too soon!
Again last night her belly was going out and her flanks hollowing like a contraction type movement and she looked like straining and legs back as if to wee but then after 3 or 4 of these she goes back to normal!
Bump has gone a little more nearside from this morning. She is still only on ad-lib soaked hay as she has been since April so where the weight is coming from otherwise I HAVE NO IDEA!!
