Discharge prior to foaling? Sorry its me again!

My little mare had been in a greenguard muzzle for 6 months, in full work and was fed nothing.....she still looked heavily in foal too!

I was disappointed, strangely, when she wasn't. I do hope you get a gorgeous foal at the end of all this excitement now.

Me too! If all this is for nothing i've managed to buy the oddest shaped horse ever who doesn't appear to come into season and changes shape on a daily basis. But hey anything is possible!

Hi there Bens_ Mum have you tried applying a little pressure with the flat of your hand where the foal is lying and then seeing if the foal knocks ack my vet taught me to do this a long time ago I think its called knocking and was possibly used before scanning I have used this methord on mares that have been scanned not in foal and on mares blood tested not in foal and who have all four of them had babies its hard to describe but give it a go. pressure then off as soon as the baby moves.
Edit to say its the water in the bag that you will feel not the foal.

Hi Angrove i've not heard that one before but will definately give it a try and report back! Do you put the pressure under the belly?

Tried 'knocking' caused definate movement at her rib area and where my hand actually was so... the plot thickens- if we were doing it right?!

Hi There no not under the belly just infront of the hip about half way down the side lay either both your hands or just one real flat, and gently push then release and feel again and you should get a reverberation iam dyslexic so please excuse bad spelling.
it would be the end of the ribs where you would expect to see the bump but not the middle of the bump or tummy.hope this helps an empty mare you will feel nothing a pregnant mare you will feel is differnt I can normaly feel them at around 5 months.
you are looking for resistance

I have been out pressing on both mares for comparison. It does cause like a twitching on Blossom above where my hands have been but not 100% I am doing it right and she has now got mardy as its interfering with tea time! LOL

Good point, if she is in foal if you feel between hip and ribs will feel very full and hard, you wont really be able to squash in too much. Compare with another horse, its very obvious if heavily in foal.
