Discharged from Hospital

Ah that's rubbish, glad you're out though.
I was told to steer clear for 2 weeks after op. Went up in a very dazed state having discharged myself about half an hour earlier on coming round (oh picked me up) and went to farm. Wasn't allowed to see horses after I keeled over in the yard. I lasted about 12hrs before then seeing littlun. She destroyed my cast and I don't remember much other than being very happy cuddled round her while feeling horrendous.
Surgeon rolled her eyes when i told her and said she expected as much :o

I am very lucky it didn't get infected though!

Don't surgeons automatically double the time with riders as they know full well we won't do what they say? 4 weeks any better? Safe recovery!

Know how you feel, was discharged on Weds after having screws put in a broken shoulder. Doc reckons 12 weeks before I can do anything with the horse :( I was on the yard between breaking it and going in for surgery and had the vet checking over the horse. She's an equine specialist but was completely siding with my OH about riders being nutters and trying to do too much too soon. I'm all for pushing yourself if you feel well enough, and understand doctors need to err on the side of caution, but she said she had had a client get on with a leg in plaster - even I can see that's just doopid! Imagine how steaming you'd be if you set yourself back unnecessarily :)

Glad you are better and back at home. Doctors only said you couldn't go near horses, they didn't say you couldn't get on one :D

Wishing you a speedy recovery :)

Just cause you can't do much doesn't mean you can't go and cuddle them. I'm about 3 weeks post ankle surgery, another 6 weeks on crutches at least but am still going up every few days to cuddle my pony. Even helped groom/muck her out today :-)

Get well soon (((Vibes))).

Since it was a hernia I think that I understand the 8 weeks horse ban a little bit better, because as I understand it, if the muscles and other things hasn't healed together well enough, and you overexert the abdonminal wall area, you can develop a new hernia/the old hernia can sort of reopen.

For however long you decide that it needs to last, I hope your recovery is as comfortable as possible.

Hope you feel better soon. Just a note of caution, if you have been given timescales by the medics, if you don't stick with them then you may find that if you are out on highways and byways, your 3rd party insurance may be invalid, as will your motor insurance if you have been given instructions not to drive. :)
