DISCO TD5 owners (pre 2001 models)

What things du have need to look for with them? OH is very good with cars so repairs wont be a prob. Anything soecific to look out for with them when viewing??

I sold my M reg that I absolutely loved but, to be honest, it was a heap of *****.

Never has a car spent so much time in the garage nor cost me so much. Still was very upset when it sold as was very attached to it (probably because I'd sunk so much money into it!)

You would be far better getting a Defender or going Japanese imo.

Sorry but I agree with bahumbug! I bought a 2000 TD5 in 2006 for £8k.

I have spent close to £10k on repairs in that time, including 3 gearboxes. This year it has been running for all of 6 weeks over the whole year & has cost me £4k alone in repairs this year. I hate it & would never have another. At this moment my OH is under the bonnet once again in the quest to try & get it running to just get rid of it.

I did have a 1991 before that which was ace & only got rid of it as some idiot smashed into the side of it & wrote it off :(

I have got a 20yr old Disco, which had a new clutch last year (first change), has had welding here nd there .......just sailed thro' another MOT.

Seems to me the older a Disco is, the sturdier they are engine/gearbox wise. Mine is a 200tdi so the smaller engine but I get around 34/35 gal.

I think u get good and bad with every make vehicle. I was told i had made a huge mistake when buying my Renault Laguna - i have had 2, a 98 and a 03 and bith were fab cars and neither had any major problems while i had them. But i knew of people that had nothing but!! I think its just luck of the draw tbh ;-)
