OK so we've just picked up our little rescue girl today. Name of Sally! Bless her she is such a dear little thing and is trying sooo hard to please!

But there is one little habit which we've noticed, which is less than desirable!!

She's a chewer! Not all the time, which is good, BUT she'd picked up a cushion when I wasn't watching her and had just started biting into it........... :( Gaaarrrgghhh!!!

We've had a rescue dog before, just lost her in fact at the end of January, but chewing wasn't one of the issues that we had to deal with, with her. So we're not quite sure of the best way to tackle this.

Tonight, to settle both our dogs, rescue and resident, they've both had a chew made out of deer's antler. Totally successful, as it settled them both down and they're now asleep!

But am worried for overnight, as if she should wake and get restless and start chewing something................ :(

Any suggestions???

The DAP diffuser is on, and there's Rescue Remedy in their drinking water.

You dont say how old she is, if she is young its probably still puppyish behaviour, it might be her way of comforting herself so it might disappear as she settles in and realises she is in her forever home. Hopefully as she gets more exercise and gets tired the behaviour will disappear, when you have to leave her for any length of time give her a frozen kong or carrot, she may well be teething so one of thos nylbone things are good. In the meantime when you leave her have a quick look around and remove anything that you think might be tempting. This is why I always think crates are very useful , if they are introduced to it properly and she see it as a den you can guarantee she wont chew anything.

So come on what is she, where are the photos, whats her name?

Our young rescue shredded her bed and some of my socks in her first few days. We just made sure she always had something of her own to chew and wasn't left alone with anything chewable. She still loves to chew but now sticks to her antler, hooves etc
