Looking at changing my shogun (Maybe a mistake as she has been so reliable!).
I like the drive of the disco 5 although am slightly worried about reliability. Anyone that has one...how easy is it to get a towbar fitted to one that is suitable to tow a horse trailer? The detachable ones seem to have a weight limit one them?
Also looking at the Tourag and have been told the towbar is an extra 2k due to fan system.

I’ve recently swapped my VW Tiguan in for an older (2012) Touareg with a flange tow bar already fitted. Drives like new and tows like a train. Not to mention extremely comfortable and nice interior with creature comforts ?? super happy with it so far.

All tow bars have a weight limit on them. I tow with a detachable tow bar on a f-pace and it works well. My favourite tow car is a defender (with a fixed tow bar), but ours is getting refurbished just now, so f-pace is having to earn her keep!

I found the land rover garage helpful and they answered all my questions (get one of the technicians, not a sales person). If you do go detachable please be aware that you need to detach it when not using and keep it clean and well maintained. If you do a lot of towing and keep your car for a while, I’d get a fixed one fitted personally.

We have a Land Rover specialist in the village who looks after our old Discovery - he has taken it to bits a few times now!

OH went round to see him as he had seen a later model Discovery for sale somewhere and the answer was "don't touch with a bargepole."

So OP you really need to know exactly which model you are looking at, the year of manufacture, the engine, the gearbox and a knowledgeable garage person who can advise you. (And not one who would look forward to a lot of business in repairs!).

I expect than any model Discovery would tow a trailer OK, the question is, will it have a lot of expensive trouble.

Overall, we are quite happy with our Discovery, although it has had quite a lot of work, it has been fairly reasonable to fix.

Thanks for the replys!
I had a discovery 3 a few years ago that I loved but it spent most of its life in limp moe! Am very tempted with a 2020 discovery 5, and was hoping they were more reliable than the older one?
Sadly shoguns are no longer made.

As said above I need to speak with a tech with regards to the towbar as the salesman wasn't very helpful!
