Disguising Antibiotics

If it's a tablet, i use to cut a carrot in half, take a hole out of the middle, put tablet in then cover the hole back up with the bit you took out.

If it's powder, put it in a bit of food.

There is a thread in either Stableyard or Vets which has some very good ideas.

I don't ever bother disguising anti-b's or bute nowadays; I just mix them in a little water in a large syringe and stuff it down their throats; quick and painless and makes sure it all gets in there.

you beat me to it

It is Trim powder which I have mixed with her usual food. She picked at it a bit and left it. I have left her all day with no hay to try to get her to give in but she hasn't yet

I need something to cover the taste.

My chap is particularly fussy but I've found that by adding sugar beet he doesn't seem to notice that the evil drugs are in his dinner!!!

We used to cut an apple in half, make a hole in the middle of one half and then feed it to the horse 'whole'. Unfortnately some horse like to 'nibble' at their apples whereas mine like to take it whole. If it's a tablet, is it small enough to fit in the middle of a polo? My mum's horses was given sedatives this way.

Im with the syringe gang, some horses will go along with the hide in a carrot routine but my boy got wise. The syringe is v quick like worming, and you know theyve had the lot. Much easier and quicker! Then they can have the apple or carrot and wont look at it suspiciously!

I used to mix mine with some icing sugar, water and a drop of peppermint essence and pop it all in a syringe. My horse used to come towards me for what she considered to be her treat.

Try grated carrot ot grated apple, mix the AB powder in, then add to feed

Works well for me, I just have to remember not to dampen the feed I think it brings the nasty taste out.

Haha success! I was unable to source a syringe this afternoon so I went for plan 2. Raspberry Jam! She loves it. Panic over
