We are on the Spearmint one and have just started our 3rd tub since putting Ruby on this. She is looking fab, but has started leaving the little balls. She is on Endurance Mix with 1 mugful of outshine in each feed. I've cut the endurance mix down a little and added a small scoop of calm and condition to kind of wet it down - but she left that too this morning.

Ideas please

Are you feeding outshine for weight gain, or for a better shiny coat ? I only ask because 2 mugs a day sounds like a lot, unless it is a really big horse. It must be costing you a fortune !

Skye is a bugger with feed and often leaves it if not in the mood i give her cortraflex so want to be sure she eats it all and tried all sorts of different things, the one that worked best was a tub of mint ( think it was naf) cost about £4 and lasted ages she licks the bucket clean now!

I'm feeding one horse a stubbs scoop of it a day!

Sorry, I have no idea what a stubbs scoop is. My horse is fed TopSpec and for her weight they recommend 600g per day, so I double checked the weight of my feed scoop, because at £32/bag I don't want to waste it.

I believe Baileys recommend the same sort of quantity for improved coat quality, but significantly more if you want a fatter horse. My friend gives her small horse one mug per day, so I wondered why you were on double that.

Stubbs scoops are the round ones with the metal handle. However, I don't pay the commercial going rate for Outshine. Though having seen how well it is keeping this horse, I probably would. I don't want my horse fatter, just to maintain. The horse has been on this for about 5 months now. Believe me, I don't waste it, nor do I feed it unnecessarily. I realise that you were asking the OP, I just thought I'd share my twopeneth

Are you going to the Arena Eventing this weekend at Church Farm?

Why not have a chat with the person from Baileys (prob Carline for your area). I think, but not sure that the endurance mix contains outshine. Therefore could you not cut out the pure outshine and increase the endurance mix - maybe to 3 feeds a day? This would then possibly equal out.

Also to the person who said 2 cups is a lot - NO IT ISN'T!!! One of my horses has 8 a day and when my stallion is in full competition work he has 6 cups and 12lbs conditioning cubes.

If you do deicde to stick with the outshine you can also but the spearmint in big bags to make it cheaper, but again you would have to speak to Caroline.
