sorry, feel free not to read i'm just feeling really disheartened about the whole horsey thing

about 3 months ago I decided to take up riding again after a break of a few years, so I had a few lessons and started looking about for a horse to loan. Found one, and rang my old yard to see if they had any stables so I could be around everyone I knew and liked, etc. They did, and I went to meet the YO who was as lovely as ever, showed me the stable, had a cuppa tea, brilliant. We organised the date and I left, all ok. Then we both went on holiday, so there was a 2 week period where we couldn't really talk, but anyway.

Three days before he was due to arrive, I rang up just to confirm everything and arrange a time and she told me she had given the stable away, as because I hadn't rang her she thought it'd fallen through. THREE DAYS BEFORE! Why didn't she ring me to say she was going to give it away?! Talk about up sh*t creek without a paddle...so not able to find another yard, I agree that we can do the months trial where horsey is anyway, it's a bit out of the way but not impossible...but there are a few days when I can't make it and I told the owner and she seemed to understand. Yesterday I get a p*ssed off text saying she's been feeding him for 3 weeks and it's my responsibility, not hers, so I should buy a bag of pony nuts as a contribution...ok fine...but he's out 24/7 and I had no idea he even had a hard feed?! The first few times I saw him we went through the routine together and there was no hard feed whatsoever.

So the trial period ends next week and I've got nowhere to put a horse and realistically can't carry on with this one.

This is really upsetting as there's not really anything about down here (Isle of Wight) and I can't find a livery yard to save my bloody life.

Gah..sorry. Need to get it off my chest. Feeling so down and disheartened about the whole thing.

That's a shame but unfortunately thats people for you. To be honest the lady that owns the horse you want on loan sounds like a bit of a pain in the nether regions and I would stay well clear.

Chin up maybe it's just not meant to be for you at the moment, but hang in there and everything will come to fruition and for the tme being keep up with the riding lessons xx

This won't really help & I sympathise with your predicament but I was looking for another horse last summer & I sorted out a stable for it before I found the horse I wanted. The difference is that to secure the stable you need to pay rent on it. I did that so when I found my horse I had somewhere to take it to.

You can't really expect a YO, who has a business to run, to keep a stable empty for you & be actually losing money while you try & find a horse for yourself. You should have offered rent on the stable & if you'd done that this wouldn't have happened. Hopefully it's a lesson learned

Aww bless you!
Sounds like you're getting a rough deal on both sides!
The lady with the stables sounds unreliable (she should have called you!!) and the lady with the horse doesn't sound particularly understanding or patient either (which should be an early warning sign at this stage in your loan agreement!!)
It may be best to accept that this horse at those stables isn't going to work out for you and start afresh; I'm sure it is hard to read, but both of these women sound a bit rubbish and I recommend you seriously consider whether it is worth your while pursuing a professional relationship with either of them.

Aww :hugs: I don't really know what to say/suggest but i do feel for you as it must be horrible. If you really like this loan horse then it might be worth sticking with it and sitting owner down and explaining how difficult you are finding it to find a livery yard.
Also the Y0 let you down a lot if she promised you the stable. It may be worth as others have said in the long term if you can't find anywhere and are struggling to get to loan horse to startr afresh.
Hope things work out.
