well actually, we had an accident on the road and he was hit by a truck....that was six weeks ago and he is working sound again...I'll try that link now, thanks a mil!

Crikey! Poor chap! So glad all that remains damaged is his tail! Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, I will keep looking for other articles but there seems to be remarkably little info about it online!

he was off work for two weeks, then eveything allowed for four weeks, even gallops but just no jumping and then we started jumping him again last thursday and he was perfect so fingers crossed...we're starting small. I wonder will it affect him at all in the long term?

I once worked with an equine chiropractor and we did come across a horse with a dislocated tail. The horse had reared and gone over backwards. She moved with her tail clamped.

The horse was heavily sedated and the chiropractor pulled the tail very strongly until all the vertebrae went back into alignment.

The effect on the horse was immediate - she immediately started to carry her tail again

Thats really interesting Tnavas, his tail is not necessarily clamped more hanging loosely...he can only lift it to the side to go to the loo. We were told to let it cacify?? but one of his vertabrae is sticking up and is not very becoming

One year later :

Just thought I'd let you know, that since the accident last year, my horsie improved hugely! It happened in March and, by the middle of June we were on our way to France to compete in the CCI* in Jardy, following that we went to the Junior Europeans in Belgium!

We have been told his tail was in fact fractured, but to leave it to heal naturally, since an operation had no guarantees. Now he has a bit more movement in his tail but will never regain full movement. He can sort of "carry it" but you wouldn't really notice it, and it wont affect his performance in the long run! So delighted with this outcome and thanks for you help!!!!
