Tried to worm both horses last night ,mine was brilliant daughters hates it and is so evasive becomes dangerous although she is normally a poppet.Decided to put it into feed last time she ate it but it was a different wormer. She was furious threw her bucket and some of the contents around stable stamped in it snorted.Very amusing but she still hasnt eaten her feed or wormer.Im going to try some apple juice in feed tonight to try and cover the smell ive added garlic that didnt make any difference .Apart from buying another wormer can anyone think of a way apart from apple juice to disguise the smell etc .Its pramox wormer.

I normally put the wormer in the bucket and put some water in it so basically its just water stuff and absorb that with chaff(a lot!) etc then add a bit of mix etc however last time it didt work as well but does normally!
Apple juice is good too

She had her normal chaff, sugar beet to disguise it some more, lots of carrots and the garlic and still threw a strop.Oh and of course her moody mare herbs lol

I am afraid I go to great lengths...grated apple and carrot, a bit of muesli mix, garlic, extra strong mints.,,just enought to mix up with the wormer...they can't get it down fast enough. Used to syring it into Saff but she stands with her mouth shut for as long as it takes for me to conclude that it has gone(anything up to 10 mins!)..and then spits it out. Refuses apples or mints while emplying this strategy..FAR too cunning!
hence the fruit salad/muesli thing. She does look a bit miffes when she has finished it as she seems to twig that she has been conned!!!

Have you tried a molasses sandwich? For my one awkward one I mix the wormer with molasses and fold over the slice of bread. Has worked for me so far. If going for this I would try with a plain molassses one first just in case she doesn't like!

I tried using molasses once to disguise the taste and now my horse things molasses is the work of the devil and reacts violently to that as well. She's an angel mostly but turns into a monster at worming time and I've not yey found an easy way of getting it down her neck.

I have tried disguising the taste of it but it doesn't always work. In the end I got one of those Easy Wormer bits and now worming is not a problem. Pony can't spit it out past the bit so all of it goes in the pony and stays there.

Pramox is the only one ours won't eat in normal feed. We had to use a lot of sugar beet to get them to take it.
Easy Wormer bit would be the only other way to ensure they get the full dosage.
