Hello all,

I am doing my dissertation based around the re-training of standardbreds, who else has done this or who owns one? what experiences have you had? do you like the breed? would you do it again?
Any info would be useful :)
I have my own which i have retrained to event!

Thanks xx

I have one from a charity. Backed her and got her doing short hacks, but she's due to foal in a month or so she's on maternity now! Never had one before, had only tbs and sport horses. Absolutely love her though, she's my favourite of them all now - super temperament, tough as nails, hardy, clever and just a really really nice mare. Plan is to see if she can event too - delighted to hear yours does. I'd be very tempted to stick with them in future, i love tbs, so i like the bit of blood in her.

Thats lovely and great to hear as you don't hear much about them in the UK, more so in aus it seems!
I can totally agree with the hardy, temperament and nice mine is the exact same, i got her given as she was going to go for meat and i cant believe i have never heard of them before, i would love to retrain more and more as they 100% the most willing horses around! I get so many nice comments everywhere i go!
How lucky your getting a foal what is that too?
Thanks for the reply.

i am so impressed with the temperament, never had one before and had planned to sell her, but if she can jump well I'l def keep her. She never gave me a days bother during backing and breaking - she is happy to try and has a good work ethic. Just a lovely, lovely character. I always prefered tbs, but i love the way she has a tb sensitivity and brain but with common sense!

Havent a clue what the foal is! dying to meet it!

so glad to hear someone events theirs. i love eventing and ideally would love this one to event, but wasn't sure how the 'bum high-long backed' shape she is would manage!

Yes out of everything mine loves jumping the best especially xc I've done up to 1.10m :) our first hunter trial she won out of 46. They are known to be good at jumping so you defo should give it a go!
Lovely about the foal.
