Dissertation questionnaire

Hi,
I'm filling in your questionnaire now, and I'm really sorry to say but most of the sentences make no sense. As another dissertation student, I would advise you to go and speak with your tutor and have them rewrite questions for you. I'm only on number 7 and already really struggling to get my head around it- especially question 6!!

Hi, this questionnaire was put together with the assistance of my dissertation tutor and checked by my secondary advisor and neither of them had a problem with any of my questions. Question 6 is asking you to assess each situation and decide if the welfare of horses is likely or not to be compromised, the rest are statements which you are given the opportunity to either agree or disagree with. Sorry if it doesn't make sense to you.

I have done them both.

emma_0911 I've put my HHO user name on your survey. :)

I have done both as well - but neither allow for grey areas - I sort of feel that both under graduates, already have a few preconcieved ideas in relation to the results that they hope to get, rather than approaching this research with an open mind....??

Accept the criticism and use it in your discussion, that is what I've done with the dissertation threads I made on here.

Supervisor approval or not, if it doesn't make sense to somebody, you have to consider why and what you could do to help people understand better.

Both completed, and comments above cover my thoughts.

Ditto - the first one in particular needs a bit of tweaking as it doesnt really make sense. Question 7 in particular is wrong.

Both done though:)

Please accept this as constructive criticism, not as negative comments. I agree that both appear to be asking for support for a view you already have. Whether that is true, or whether the questions are just not clear enough for all to complete openly only you can know. I agree with riderLizzie that the comments made on here should form part of your discussion. It should after all be a learning experience. I have completed both.

Difficult to answer the one about certain scenarios; I have no knowledge of many of these.

The one about altering feed and restricting grazing - well, for most of the overweight fatties in this country that would be a positive, but if you have a thin horse it might be a negative :p

OP, if I wanted feedback on whether a survey was any good, I wouldn't ask my dissertation supervisor, I'd try and find someone like a researcher who puts together surveys for a living.

Quote from Theocat "The one about altering feed and restricting grazing - well, for most of the overweight fatties in this country that would be a positive, but if you have a thin horse it might be a negative"

I also found that one difficult. I feel strongly that an unnatural low forage/high concentrate diet is a bad thing but at the same time that overfeeding is a terrible thing and fatties should have their diets restricted - ideally with decent quantities of low calorie forage (though I know air ferns can be difficult even then).

Well my dissertation supervisor and I both felt the survey was more than suitable for the nature of my study.

Thank you for completing it.

I still thought that both of these surveys were not well designed . Unless of course the exercise was to design a survey with loaded questions to support a particular viewpoint.

Done and also had the same reservations as Theocat.

Having done dissertations i would consider using the results and comments gathered here as part of your pilot study, revise your questions and then republish.
