I promise to post pictures as soon as I can work out how to do that! And more details of her once she arrives :)

Making the final arrangements today for new horsey, hoping to collect her on Saturday. Not sure how I will manage between now and then, as am already v excited and distrated making lists of what I need (nothing, but since when did that stop me!).

I've had her on a 4 week trial at her current yard. Moving her to my yard this weekend if I can sort everything out (having inadvertently got caught up in a major spat between yard manager and instructor - yikes). As if life isn't complicated enough eh.

Anyway, am now going to make use of the TB recommendation thread and am off to cruise around some on-line tack shops for yet more gear!!

I may have to drink myself silly on friday night, so I can get some sleep. Although being hungover in charge of a lorry may not be the wisest idea :)

And appear to have lost the ability to spell in my heading which I now can't edit hehe
 
What fantastic news, you must be so excited. Bet you can not wait till the week end, time never seems to go that fast when you really want it to. Re the photos what you need to do is upload them to Photobucket then go to the pics that you want and clic on the bottom code, come back on here and then paste on your thread and the pic should be there, you can preview it to make sure it has worked, hope it all goes well for you and look forward to seeing the pics soon :D:D
 
Fantastic news - I am so happy for you!! I know EXACTLY how you feel. This was my facebook status the night before I was picking up Cameo:

"OMG I feel like a 10 year old girl on Christmas Eve - not sure I'm going to sleep tonight!!! :D"

Thanks for the photobucket tips - I was just trying to post but the site has a v annoying habit of having adverts with sound which I can't switch off. I'm on a work pc - ooops! So will have a crack from home instead! This week is dragging !

Heya QB - if I didn't have speakers which were announcing the world (via photobucket) that I'm not working, then I could show you ;)

She's a bay WBxTB cross, 6yo, bit finer/more TB than I was after but she's nicely put together.

She's done a reasonable amount and certainly isn't a green youngster as she was produced to event, but she wasn't up to it I think. Nicely schooled, doesn't seem like a complete nutter - although she is a mare ;) Done some unaff stuff, done a few affiliated events and not so good at BE last year, but probably a bit soon for her really. Has been draghunting a few times and seems to enjoy xc/jumping. More forward than my lovely little bomproof boy but that's what I am after. Passed a 5 stage and vet really liked her :)

Am hoping to do lots of fun RC things, clinics, pony parties and then a bit of hunting in the winter. If all goes well of course! I realise she might test me out at first so have lots of experienced people on hand to help, will do groundwork for the first week or so and just play around with her. Need to get a saddle sorted anyway before I can ride.

Have been cruising this site for tips on settling in new horses, so any suggestions gratefully received - what to do in the first few days/weeks and "how to manage mares" (that's probably several volumes of a book?!).
 
PS Owned and being sold by HHOs members but I thought I'd get her paid for and at my yard before I give too much info away !! And sourced via a recommendation from another HHOer - what a lovely site this is.
 
Lovely, she sounds perfect for what you want. I generally just try and read the horse re settling in. Some prefer to just get on with routine and work, some need a few days to adjust, if she seems a bit tense and worried, I would give her a calmer supplement for a few days (I used magic five star plus from naff) its a bonus that you have had a month to get to know her already, you should have no problem helping her adjust, I'd keep her routine as similar as you can, at least she will be used to going different places having done some competing already. Thank you, although I can't take any credit for it as he was called that when I bought him. :)

My one biggest tip is to feed them less than they are used to to start with, and certainly no more, even if they are not up to the weight you want them. Or reduce the bucket feed and increase forage. I don't want to sound mean, but better they feel a little under par than over just so you can establish a relationship with them. Should probably run for cover now I've said that. :eek::p

Ahh thanks both.

And Nicki - I agree on the feeding thing, she's in good condition now but she will be getting more turnout and less work initially, and is a good doer, so I will reduce her hard feed.

I did also wonder about the calmer, will see how she is - she seems a fairly quiet horse (atm anyway!)
