Hi all, looking for some ideas to work towards solving our new cobs canter issue?
We have had him a few months now- he was very unfit and unbalanced and we are having weekly lessons. His balance has improved greatly although he does have a tendency to push out his left shoulder we are working on it.
In lessons we aren't working on canter yet, but during the week we are giving it a try but are yet to get any correct right canter, instead it's disunited, being correct behind every time. Left canter is correct every time.
His back, teeth , tack has all been checked and we did twice get a correct lead in the right, once when we tripped! And once when I changed the rein and surprised him with a last minute change of direction( my mistake)
Any ideas?

Out of the school he will lead with the left 100% of the time, I've never seen him canter in the field yet!
When we did get correct right canter it was only for a few strides then broke but felt fine.
He is very one sided, but improving, and I had thought he was just choosing left canter all the time.
Thinking this was lack of strength behind I have been doing lots of transitions and hill work in trot/walk- it was only when watching my daughter yesterday I realised he is always correct behind.

When they are disunited behind but correct in front, or they are continually going disunited after a few correct strides then this can be indicative of a hock problem, but not sure why your horse is disunited in front? Could you not film the horse and put it on here to give us more of an idea, or maybe ask your vet for their thoughts?

He was vetted and we had physio out to check him over and she said he was a bit stiff in his right side so gave him some treatment.
I haven't had him on the lunge yet.
