In my hunter trial tomorrow there are two ditches, one very wide and deep and the other narrow but very deep, she has done both of these before, but not since camp in august, and she does have a bit of a fear of ditches sometimes. is there any other thing i can do to help her get over them apart from look straight ahead and nudge her on? does anyone do anything else? or do you think this would be ok?

thanx

I would approach in trot so you have the best chance of keeping her going. Keep your hands wide and keep the contact so there is "no way out" for the horse other than going forward. Keep the leg on, but don't over-ride and create an issue.

Good luck and remember to keep looking up and be positive - you WILL get over the ditches!

As long as you do not stop moving forwards then it will not be counted as a stop. Trot in to give them time to see it. I use voice on my youngster keep riding forward and do not give them time to hesitate. If in doubt give them a smack behind the saddle.

Sit up, look up, kick, hold neck strap
