Well we decorated the school using Tesco advertising banners thanks to a livery who is a Tesco manager, raided the hanging baskets and got the white blocks out and...
She didn't bat an eyelid

I mean no reaction, she didn't even flinch, nothing not even a twitch!
So not sure what we do now.
We are taking her out most weekends and usually borrow schools so she has a change of scenery any ideas?

I have done the same thing with Finn and music - he was fine at home but still hysterical at shows.

Best thing to do is try and recreate situation as best you can - perhaps go to a comp just to school?

To be perfectly honest the ONLY way to get the used to all the different things is to go out and about as much as you can.

We are planning on hiring as many schools in the area as we can for an hours session so Gen will hopefully become more settled when he goes out to different places.

Good luck. It will come right, it just takes time and patience.

She's fine in the warm-up she doesn't give a monkeys! It's the arena itself. I think it all stems from the scare she got at Cobham. I'm sure she will come right its just perserverance and patience.
OH says she lacks confidence at a competition and will get better as she gains confidence and develops trust.
Crapping my pants about the Area at Wix now! What's it like do you know and do they hire it out?

It sounds to me that it is just a case of getting out and about as the atmosphere is very different to home. Your OH probably tenses up when he goes into the ring.

Yep that sounds about right, I did the plastic banners in my menage at home for Sov, he didnt bat an eyelid but Touchy stood stock still in the middle snorting at them.
It was maybe just the occasion, there is no great science behind it and whatever you try the little buggers always catch you out!

Ooooh you're going to Wix too? Which classes are you doing?

Think prob best to just keep taking her out...how about some unaffil also?

Never been to Wix, but have heard good things about it.

Fairly confident my OH does not tense up, I think with hindsight it was a big ask for a young horse and I think the atmosphere coupled with the arena decorations tipped her over the edge.

Just doing the prelim. Going to hire it out as I break up the week beofre so will have some time to get her over there.
Have you qualified too? What class are you doing?
She is booked solid until the area!
Wednesday 11th she has qualified for the Young Horse Cahmpionships at Addington.
Saturday 14th Oldencraig
Sunday 15th - Friday 20th she is coming with me on a residential school riding trip for the week
Then Saturday 21st Speedgate
I'm pooped just thinking about it all

agree - the only way to de-sensatise is to get them out and about as much as possible to loads of different venues. They should eventually get used to it.
