So last wkend we had our 2nd jumping lesson and built up through a little grid.

It's really frustrating having a baby horse to teach to jump, not because he has a lot to learn but because you NEED someone on the floor to move poles/fences etc and during the week by the time I get to the yard after work almost everyone else has been and gone :( so I have to wait for my lessons in order to jump atm. Am working on this and think I may have found the perfect solution as new livery also has a 5yr old and also wants to start jumping and also as luck would have it used to be a Grade A sjer - peeeeerfick!

Anyhoo the main thing we need to crack is D's tendency to poke his head up, when you come in and he goes a little wobbly if i correct him he hollows, only at first and once through he then rounds and jumps nicely (admittedly this is only his 2nd time jumping, but this is my main concern that he learns to work out of this bad habit quickly) we built up to a little double, and he popped each variation of the grid really nicely after he knew what was needed.

He did however take offence at hitting his back legs on the xpole one time and sort of shot off in a weird bouncey, bronky, humpy flid down the arena (special pony) next time through guess what?....clean as a whistle! :)

Video of the grid and the beginning of the flid but my 'camera mum' who was hiding in a shed at the side of the arena out of the rain didn't get the whole thing because she has a real talent at always missing the good bits ;)

Video and report here - http://www.gifthorseeventing.co.uk/2011/09/rain-jumps-and-tantrums.html

deep heat and tubigrip on offer today and some anadins as yesterday I ran my 1st half marathon and today I appear to have 'tied up' ;) :)

That's good that u may have solved the jumping pole putter upper problem! Glad to hear he is enjoying his jumping, it's a sign of a good one not to touch it a second time!!!

U will be out baby jumping in no time

Yes one other time where he touched a fence he had a similar reaction, good for sjing, but maybe he can tone it down for xc?.. ;)

I plan a winter of baby sjing and dressage if all goes to plan :)

Oh my god! Just got a massive shock!! You're having a lesson at my old yard!!

We moved last December.

Love your pony btw. :p

It's a gorgeous yard, my instructor must have taken it on from you guys then?... I love the arena so big and flat (the polar opposite to my arena at home!) only thing I don't like is the wiggly, hilly, nightmare of a journey to get there! ;)

Yes I think they must have.

It was a great yard to start in the area. However, we just needed more boxes as we were full to bursting! Also wanted a slightly bigger house (not sure where your instructor is living, but we lived practically on the yard in a TINY little house - three converted stables actually!).

We only moved 2 mins up the road from there to Wantage and bought our own beautiful place. :)

Yes I think they find the living small compared to the house they moved from, but they love being right on the yard. I guess it's really handy but then again you are sort of always at work...

It's not really 'work' though, is it? It's a lifestyle so you kind of need to be that close.

In that house you can hear everything that goes on on the yard so if a horse gets cast/the gypsies break in in the night you certainly know about it! The design of the place is like a gold fish bowl.

I hope they have many happy years there as we did. :)

He looks lovely :) It's great that you are not rushing him it will be worth it in the end.

thank you, I find it hard at times because I want to be out and about competing (half the reason I am doing more competitive running in order to be doing something competitive) but I know from my mistakes with Soap how hard it is to un-do them, so taking the time to get this guy right from the start *fingers crossed* it pays off....

Daft Dustry sausage! :D

He looks brill all the same for his speshal moment :D

He has a fair few 'dustry moments' last week he somehow managed to get tangled in his hay net attached to the back belly strap of his rug????... (hay nets are hung at about 6ft, back belly strap is lower than 3ft.....i'm still baffled....thankfully he's such a dope he was just stood there eating from the net wearing his rug like a crop top!
