Broke up from school today and finished at 12, literally threw the kids out the door and ran to my car,
I was desperate to get to the yard to spend a whole two weeks with Diva. (I do realise that this statement makes me sound like the children I teach but I can't help it, it has been a very long 7 week term!!!!)
So I am all excited and full of Christmas cheer (despite getting in at 2am because we went to Olympia!) I even got up early and packed my riding stuff. I get to the yard and get changed in the freezing cold rather than go home and get changed in the warm to make the most of the time I have in daylight with Diva.
So we have a cuddle and then I say hello to OH who said she was really good this morning and suggests I lunge her and do a little in-hand work and ride tomorrow as he won't be around. So I give her an apple from my lunch-box which I had saved for her (it was a Cox apple as well, which are my favourite!) and get her ready.
Get to the school where I ask permission to come in as someone is working their horse. I assure them smugly that she is really good and we will tuck ourselves into the top corner and they won't even know we are there.
I walk her round in-hand and then on go the side-reins and we do some walk-trot-walk transitions to warm-up and admittedly it serves me right, but one minute she was walking round and the next I looked over at my friend to say something and the next thing she has let rip!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was incredible she literally sat down and luanched herself up in the air in like a levade before doing the biggest buck and p*ssing off bucking and aiming for my head.
I was so shocked it took me a second to react. Let's just say the rest of our session was spent re-establishing some ground-rules!
She was very fresh and clearly feeling very well, her jumping expolits at the weekend have clearly loosened her up and she felt the need to express the new found freedom in her back.
The twice-a-day regime might need to be curtailed if this is the outcome!
