Still holding my breath just in case but...
So far so good
OH is now off the lead rein
Last Friday was one of those do we or don't we days. It was blowing a hurricane and raining and I wasn't sure whether it was worth the risk but we decided that we were committed and the weather doesn't usually bother her so I gave her some Sedalin and attempted to lunge
Despite the weather she was very good so legged OH up and off we went I walked them miles around the fields leading Diva and accompanied by Casper our dog! The weather was rank, the horses on either side of our fields spent the whole time galloping around but she took absolutely no notice and was foot perfect.
Not sure how much this was due to the fact my pockets were bulging with treats and Diva is (just like me) VERY food orientated. Think it was a case of go wherever the food and mummy went
Next day was still very windy but sunny so we decided to hack out. I gave her less sedalin and lunged again before legging OH up and telling him he was free to wander round while I got on Hils.
There was a slight misunderstanding (what looked like a very faint hearted nap) when Diva tried to follow me out the school. This was genuine on her part because she stepped back to follow me as I left the arena. Since she came back into work she hasn't really left my side as I have either been lunging or leading her everywhere and she honestly thought she was coming with me and the treats! OH just encouraged her forward and as soon as she realised I was gone she ambled off around the school.
With me on board sporting a CAUTION NERVOUS HORSE tabard off we went and lets just say that Hils's halo well and truly slipped! By the end of the ride the tabard should have read CAUTION NERVOUS RIDER!
He was a spooky wotsit and his status as nanny was in serious doubt. Diva just trundled on in a drugged haze, at one point she slipped and Hils retaliated by sticking his head down and bucking as we went past the pub. I can honestly say I chose the wrong horse to hack that day!!!!
Next day I gave even her less sedalin and she let me know she was a bit more awake by attempting a pathetic buck, legged OH up and off she went around the school while I clambered onto Hils. Just to get rid of any excess energy OH schooled him first and his halo was back in place! So off we went and she was a bit more awake but brilliant
Did quite a bit of trotting and she was back to her old self, did some independent trot transitions which were smooth and balanced no resistance at all!
So we have another 10 days of walking and trotting and then comes crunch time! We are off to the gallops to try cantering in straight lines
In between hacking she is being lunged on a large circle without sedation, we are also doing polework as well as stretches and massage as directed by the physio.
The vet and physio are coming back on the 4th April just to check her progress so fingers crossed we carry on as we have been.
