Dixons Dustless - Opinions please - Anyone used/tried it??

Has anyone used/tried Dixons Dustless bedding??

With shaving getting more and more expensive, I was thinking of trying something else.

Dixons Dustless seems more reasonally priced and I quite like the idea of having a straw bed (don't currently as the bales of straw we can get are quite dusty/dirty). However I am slightly concern Sparks may think I have bedded her on Chaff!!!!! and spend all night eating it!!!!
 
I have used it and loved it, it works just like a shavings bed or any other of these newer type bliss etc etc. I cant recall mine eating it but you could always squirt some diluted disinfectant or something smelly over the top of it to start with.
Are you in there area, i think they are in norfolk arent they?
I have found some other companies that are doing good prices on bulk stuff but depends where you are?
 
I used it a couple of years ago and really liked it, i bought the disinfected coated one as i was worried horse would eat it but she never bothered with it. Found it really easy to muck out only went back to shavings as can get bedmax for less than a fiver a bale.
 
Where abouts in the country are you?? we have to buy by the pallet load ( YO buys them in) were paying £4.40 at the start of last winter went up to £4.80 towards the end of winter, have a feeling they will probably go up this year but we were promised they would be around the £5 mark.
 
We are north Notts guessing the reason bedmax is so cheap up here is that they make it in yorkshire i think. The bloke we buy off will only deliver within 50 miles now my geography is pretty poor but i am sure Surrey is futher that that!!
What kind of price have you been quoted for the dixons?? 4I used to deep litter through the week and full muck out at the weekends on it, found it plenty absorbant enough to cope with my very wet mare and as the name would suggest it is not dusty at all.

Thats a pretty good price for dixons if im honest, i have been quoted a similar price for large flake shavings from a new company that had an ad in h+h a couple of weeks back, not sure if they would deliver your way but its always worth asking. Also a found a company that do bulk loads of Bliss (flax) that were advertising in h+h too! Can give you more details if you need them but i think as i said your price for dixons is pretty good im lucky if i can get anything under £6 from feed merchants etc
 
I use them mixed 50 - 50 with shavings on rubber matting. I use about a 4" deep bed. This for me is perfect, gives a nice bed, is nice and easy to muck out, soaks up pee well.

I have used them just by themselves, but found them mixed with shavings works better on the mats. If I had a stable that was outside and not on mats, I would be happy to go back to just the dixons.

Helps keep the cost down - shavings are £6.90 and dixons is £4.60.
 
I LOVE dixons..... all the benefits of shavings with the comfort of straw. My boy didn't eat it but another I had at the time did.....guess that depends on the horse

I had a full bed on rubber mats and mucked out daily as my boy is very wet
 
We call it Dixon's Dusty! It makes a really comfy bed and it's easy to muck out but I do find it dusty and cough and splutter when putting a new bale in. One of my horses eats the orininal but not the lavender one (purple writing on bag) and it smells much nicer too.
