DIY Cavaletti

Hi Guys!

I am looking to come up with my own cavaletti as the shop versions are very expensive imo - only problem is, I don't know where to start!

Anyone else already done this - if so, please share your words of wisdom!!!

I made some out of some 4" x 2" timber. I cut one piece 12 inches long & a second piece about 4 inches long. I then cut a 'v' out of ther top of the 4 inch long piece & made the 'v' about one inch deep. I then nailed the 4 inch piece to the middle of the 12 inch piece. I made 8 of these & then, using the poles from our jumps rested the poles across them. We then had 4 cavaletti poles, about 6 inches high & work the horses over them. Very cheap, easy to make & you don't need to be a fully trained carpenter or have special tools. :)
 
I got a nice DIY jump building book on Amazon...there's lots available! I'll have to check which one I have (it's in my cupboard at the yard), but there's definitely cavaletti in it. Toby_Zaphod, do yours only have the one, 6-inch setting, or can they be rotated to 3 heights like normal cavaletti? I'm intrigued!
 
I just have lengths of old timber that I stack under jump poles, that way if they are knocked then the pole rolls off, and I can easily fiddle with the height that I want. (I am also v un-diy minded, and cutting lengths of timber is about my DIY skill level!

You can actually cut a 'v' in the side of the 4 inch piece & then use them on their sides so you can have 2 different heights, I can't manage 3 heights though. Well what can you expect from basically a couple of pieces of wood knocked together. If I knew how to post pictures I'd post one showing exactly what I mean.

I've made numerous jump wings & fillers as well. You don't have to spend a fortune to get yourself some decent jumps. :)
