I've been silly and miscalculated my costings for DIY
blush.gif

Ignoring the actual DIY livery cost and shoes, how much do you budget per horse in the winter?

3 bales of hay per week give or take a few slices @ £4 a bale = 12
Bale of shavings per week @ £6.75
Bag of Readi grass every 4 weeks @ £11 per bag / 4 = 2.75
Bag of mix every 3 weeks @ £6 a bag = £2

£~24 per week on top of my £~20 for stable and grazing.. (pay for grazing on a daily basis)

Then shes clipped out once under sedative, so about £100 once I've bought whoever clips a prezzie & paid the bill.

Thats about it I think?

I calculate £2500 per horse per year average and that is doing absolutely nothing but Hacking with them .... and 100% DIY

Take off £2400 so that's £2600 for them both exc stable and grazing costs

i work mine out at 25 for stable and grazing and 20 a week for the extras feed hay bedding altho shud be cheaper thru summer due to no hay and bedding

Mines easy £32.00 a week for my 3 horses and that includes all my hay/straw/stable etc.

Summer its £25.00 a week but still get all the hay/straw i need just no hay in the field.

I pay £75 per month livery
3 or 4 hay @ £3.50 p/w
1 or 2 shavings @£5.50 p/w
shoes £72 every 7 wks
feed about £10 a week in mid-winter
wormers- not sure can never remember about £15
Insurance £240 per year
all these things add up so much OMG!! and thats only for starters

okay, mine is for a TB who eats quite a lot but is on straw (dirty horse.!) so that is quite cheap..
average for me per month (being a bit generous);
feed - 3 bags nuts, 1.5 bags build up, 1 bag Hifi = £40
straw - 1.5 big bales per month = £18 (£12 per bale)
hay - hard to judge as hay is included in my DIY livery and I haven't bought a bale in donkeys years.! 13 bales per month (guess.!) @ £3.50 a bale = £45.45
suppliments(sp) - ave of £40 per month. joint supp, foot supp, oil and electrolytes (when eventing)...

so ave monthly cost would be £145 if rounded it up..

for me, including my DIY livery (£182pm incl hay and lorry parking), that would be £280 per month, plus another £90 for shoes every 4 weeks.. £57 pm insurance.. and thats without any comps.!!!
yikes.!!

ETS - I have a high maitenence horse..!! good job i'm not...

£40 a week for stable, grazing, hayledge and indoor usage.
About £5 a week for feed (£20 a month).
And about £40 a week for petrol.

I don't even want to calculate that for a month! >_<

haylage@ £4 a week =£16
straw x 2@ £4 a week=£16
feed is £17 a month
livery is £80 a month = £129 a month but then feet, wormer, insurance new things on top

Right here goes.........

£120 per month Livery
12 x £3 (per bale) hay per month = £39
8 x £6 (per bale) shavings per month = £56
1 x Hi Fi Lite per month = £7
Vit Min, Joint Supp & Aloe Vera per month = £20

£242 per month

(+ Insurance, Farrier, Vet, Dentist, Wormers, Lorry running cost etc, etc, etc, etc, etc......................................)SFB!!!!!!!!!!!

mmmm my livery is expensive then £180 a month EACH for DIY. I do have the use of an indoor school though and live in London.....still, it's expensive!

We don't have an indoor school, just 2 x outdoor ones (but one is pants as really deep, except in winter when it is O.K.)

Where are you based though? Seems to make alot of differnce - even from different parts of london!

I am in North London and just paid my bill this evening £259 again we have good facilities indoor school and 2 x outdoor.

£160 for livery plus £99 for hay and straw - native pony does not do stabling so they feed him hay in field every day in the winter. He has hardly any hard feed now cut down to 1/4 scoop of meadow mix as it fizzes him up and we now have grass.

interesting to know what others pay out - horses ay!

stable rent £85 a month
feed £30 month (2 bags of No4 & 1 bag alfa a)
hay £27.50 (10 bales)
chippings £24 (a bale a week)
insurance £33
weekly lessons £60
Shoes £55 (6 weeks)

Just outside Guildford, so I'm guessing not too far from you (but not as close to London).
