People on DIY - What are your average monthly costs? Excluding obbviously unexpected costs.

Rent?
Hay?
Bedding?
Feed?

etc... etc...

I think this has been done before, but couldn't find it? Just want to look at what sort of costs are involved (roughly) when you keep a horse on DIY.

Thanks

Rent is £139 pm
Hay is £4.00 a bale and normally have 6/7 a month so £26 average
Straw is £2.00 a bale and normally use 4 so £8.00
Feed (he only gets hifi and a high fibre nut) £10 (1 bag of each every 2 months roughly)
Farrier annother £40 a month roughly

So in total its £213 a month

im moving down from full livery to part livery (just mucking out and haynets they put them out in the field for you and do the feeds ect) and it will be around £360 a month including front shoes and my two lessons a month (this is for just one of my horses.)

Mine is £160 rent including hay or haylage and turning out in the morning. Probably 1 x shavings per wk @ £5 and no feed.

I have 2 horses on DIY so this is the cost for both of them

Rent - £120 pm
Hay - £1.50 a bale (straight from field last year) prob use 5 a week - so £30 a month
Straw - £20 huge bale - lasts a month
Feed - prob bout £50 a month as my old mare has lots of supplements
Farrier - £65 a near enough every 2month so say £32.50

then obvs theres vets, luxuries (mine have lots of these haha) shows etc

Total without luxuries etc - £252.50 ish but it varies :) i think i do quite well to say I've got two horses haha xx

Livery £180 pm Use of 2 schools, on site hacking, post & rail fences, small turn out groups, massive stable
Haylege £30 for a large bale, 1 a month
Using cardboard at the moment but changing onto woodchip soon buy in bulk with other liveries so about £6.50 a bale.
Feed bag of hi-fi every 2 months bag of mix one a month so on average inc supplements £25 a month.
Rent to keep my horsebox on the yard £25 a month
Farrier £68 every 6 weeks
I think on average i pay about £300 a month but sometimes less sometime more. Its a lot when i look at it but the yard is lovely and i am unfortuately paying for the postcode :(

I did a spreadsheet to cover the whole year. I worked out the average cost per month was roughly £380, but this includes insurance and extras out of the norm.....

Just thought I'd mention horse does eat alot of forage as she only goes out for about 5 hours a day. Her shoes also cost about £90 every 6 weeks as she has pads and silicone. She has a mixture of hay and haylage and not much hard feed at all.

I'd prefer not to think of the costs :S but I usually spend between £250 - £350 a month.
Livery is -- £38 a week
Hay is about -- £8-£12 a week
Shavings -- £8 a week
Farrier -- £40 - £60 every six weeks
Feed -- £12 every six weeks
Comp fees -- £20 a month
Vet -- about £200 every six months
Insurence -- £40 a month

Sounds about right

Scares me to think about this but here goes. I've based my cost on mid-winter feed/hay/bedding costs, so worst case scenario:

Rent - £150pcm
Hay - £35 per big bale, use 1 bale a month
Shavings - £8.99 per bale, use 4 bales a month
Feed - £12.95 per bag, use 4 bags a month, plus £7.99 a month, plus supplements (usually £30 a month approx)
Farrier - £40-£50 every 6 weeks depending if she needs new shoes or not (fronts only)
Worming - £12 approx every 3 months

Plus any vets bills, new stuff, treats etc, and any extra services I need help with (bring in etc).

I won't add that little lot up, thank you, I don't want to think about it!!
