DIY-ers, how often do you 'do' your horse?

Twice a day every day...yes EVEN on Christmas (as I had to explain to a non-horsey friend once) :D

My lad is out most of the time, he's bought in by the YO in the early afternoon for a few hours hay and then I ride after work (around 5.30), muck out and redo the stable for the next day, he's fed then thrown back out for the night. Most of the other liveries have their horses in for the night but my lad and another owner don't need to be in so we have them out as much as possible. I see my horse every single day, weekends I spend most of the day at the yard.

There is another girl who has 3 horses on the yard, she comes maybe once a week if they are lucky (or unlucky depending how you look at it!!). Her main horse is bought in with mine in the afternoon then her relative chucks him out later, he's never mucked out properly...another livery actually mucked him out the other day because she said the stink was driving her mad!!!!! The poor horse is usually lame because his back is knackered but on the rare times she comes she rides him for hours on end then chucks him back out again. The other 2 horses are just left to rot basically, 1 is in the field..luckily it's a good doers otherwise it would be dead after the winter we've had and the other is a colt that is unhandleable and just locked away in a stable. RSPCA have already been out but nothing came of it.

When I had Dylan, I did him twice a day every day except a Saturday morning when I was at work and my sister did him. 6 am if I was at uni, 9.30 ish if I wasn't. He usually got his evening feed at about 5.30/6. I know quite a lot of people at our yard just did a quick skip out of their stables at night, but I had to do a full muck out twice a day, I felt I'd half-arsed it otherwise (and Dylan was pretty manky sometimes lol).

twice a day, or more if i can ...always around 7am week or weekend, turn out muck out etc, then in afternoon around 3-4pm, so i can ride etc and put to bed and feed by 5pm ish...mine are where i live so i also go out 6.30-7pm to skip out take out feed buckets turn off lights etc....so well really 3 times a day lol, they live out in the summer though..

My guys are at home so are done at 6am, turned out until i come home from worked, deep littered so pooh`s taken out when i`m home from work. Ridden on the weekend, but will be ridden 6 days a week when the evenings are lighter.

My old yard was a bit of a shambles TBH! There was 2 seperate yards, me and my friend were up the top and there was a few stables down a hill which always attracts halfwits!!! The current one goes to see his horse at around 3pm, chucked out until and brought back in about 6pm where they get 1 section of hay and a crappy amount of water which is meant to last until 3pm the following day. :( He has been been told by YO many times to buck up his ideas but he doesnt. The horses came over here from Spain last January, they`ve been ridden once for 30 mins, well i say ridden, they were ridden for ten minutes then halfwit and wife got off and led
Really nice horses too, arab and an andalucian...total waste IMO

I wont start on the rest of the imbeciles that have been and gone :D

I am up at the yard at 6.30am mon to fri and 8am at weekends. Im down at night at about 5pm to 6pm depending on work. i always go down twice a day, the earlier you get them out the less mess your bed is and i couldnt leave them in waiting for me.
Always twice a day wether its bad weather or im ill !!!

Once a day in the week as he's on assisted livery so YO feeds and turns out in morning, and twice a day at the weekend. Me and 2 other liveries work together a bit though and take it in turns to do each others so we always get breaks which nice in the winter. They'll live out in summer and the same will apply.
We have several liveries who will always turn up late in the evening as they know horses won't get left alone out - most of these seem scared of their own horses which seriously makes me question why they have them!
At the weekend they will often not come up until the afternoon so the horses spend all morning tramping around on dirty beds with no hay or water. Makes me really cross!

Twice a day. 5.45am in the week ! I start work at 7am ! and between 3.30 and 5.30pm.

Weekends are normally a bit later I let myself have a lie in till 7.30am. We have a little routine at weekends that the first person up will feed.

I only go up once a day, in the evening, when I do all the jobs, excercising etc. Due to rediculous time I would have to get to yard in the morning, I pay the YM to feed for me, and if my mare is having an "out day" a turnout and bring in.

It is a routine that my horse is used to so I see no issue with it.

Due to the nature of my yard and the hours I keep I don't actually see any other liveries until the weekend..... I think they must think my horse is the most neglected on the yard.

I go up once a day as my pony lives out 24/7, so I go afterwork in the week (YM is down there every morning to check on all horses as they all live out) and I pretty much spend the whole weekend down the yard but there are liveries there who only come down at the weekends, or once a week!

Twice a day I turn out the horses at the yard and sometimes bring them in as well. Been at same yard for 30 years and we all help each other whenever possible.

Twice is perfect amount of times any less than that your not really looking after your horse it's looking after itself!

I think that's a bit presumptuous. I assume you are strictly talking about horses stabled DIY and not assisted or grass liveries? If horses are happy living out 24/7 (natives for example) I don't see the problem of seeing them only once a day provided they are in a safe and secure environment with plenty food and shelter. Saying that they're not looked after is a tad dramatic.

I feed/groom/turn out or ride depending on time, in mornings also help with other livery to feed and turn out other liveries horses (diy) and they inturn do the same at night for us.
Works for us, still roll on summer and I can turn mine out 24/7.

Twice a day, sometimes three times at the weekend if I finish riding and its too early to bring him in. Weekdays at yard for 6.30am and leave for work straight from there and back at 5.00pm straight from the office. I wouldnt want to do this any differently but I do get alot of help from my OH (bless him). :)
