I rent a small private yard with friends and we generally share the care of the 3 horses between us as equally as we can. There are going to be times this winter when I need more help from them than I can return in kind so I'm looking at putting money in a pot for them.

How much do you guys get charged as extras for;

turn out / bring in
rug change
feeding
mucking out?

Really appreciate any feedback, thanks

Turn out - £2.50 inc rug change
Bring in - £3.50 inc rug change
Feeding - First on yard feeds all, otherwise 60p or so to make up feeds. £5 to feed in field if living out
Mucking out - £6 including water

Our yard is quite expensive though - YO doesn't really want to do services. They used to be included in the monthly rent, but people complained they weren't using the services, so they took them off and charged a basic rent with high priced services on top.

Turn out or bring in is £2 for each, though a yard I was at charged £2 for each or £3 if they did both (or something like that).
Have rarely paid for rug change, though one yard I was on charged 50p as it was a huge yard and YO said it took up too much time to change rugs for 30+ horses and not charge.
Feeding - don't pay ATM, it's part of the service as they all get fed at same time. Have paid 50p to have a feed put in that's already made up.
Mucking out: £4 I think.

£1 turn out or bring in 50p rug change but I used to just use Turnout rugs all the time and rotate them. 50p for feeding which is a feed put in and hanging haynet but used to begrudge this a little as on the mornings I used to get down 1st and feed the whole barn then leave before the YO got up then a charge would appear on my bill ! I would never charge anyone for feeding a horse in the morning if the bucket was left outside the stable. Skip outs used to be £2.50 and full livery for the day £7.50 which would be the whole lot.

Just curious, why the £1 difference between turning out and bringing in? Isn't it the same job time wise?

To answer original question I pay £3 to bring in including feet picking, rug changing and a haynet/feed given. £5 for full muck out.

Looking at everyone else's prices, I'm pretty lucky!

I'm on assisted DIY (only up once a day and the yard do the other end of the day). I go up every night and muck out/ ride etc.

If I can't make it up one day, the yard will do rug change both am and pm, turn out and bring in and full muck out (basically treat her as full livery) for £3!!

Apparently not

I have never dared broach the subject, but I suspect it's because he has to walk to get the horse in the field (most don't come to the gate), whereas when turning out, obviously he just goes to the gate. Probably does take an extra 5 minutes.... And possibly danger money too - some of the herds can be a bit naughty, with certain horses demanding they come in first, so just going in the field at bringing in time can be a bit hairy lol

Maybe they include picking the horses hooves out when bringing in but not when turning out?

The price has varied mainly depending on the distances involved.

turn out / bring in from £2.50 to £10 - depending on the distance of the field - on one yard it could take up to an hour to get a horse in from the far field hence it was £10!

rug change - from included with T/O or B/I up to £3

feeding - from free if feed made up to £1. topping up water was 80p.

mucking out? from £5 to £7.

I wondered that, but I asked if he picked feet out, and he said "No, we don't touch feet"

Who knows - I've given up worrying about it these days - I don't use the services very often (do swaps with a friend or send horsey OH to bring in).

Thanks all, I just want to be able to say I'll contribute extra when I need the additional help and will be able to put something together using this
