Has anyone constructed their own DIY field shelters? I've seen some quite impressive ones built out of pallets and plywood and I (my OH) want to give it a go!

I do have a purpose built shelter in another field, which they use a lot in summer & winter.

Thanks

I made a basic one last year (I say “I” it was OH really but I was very good at holding and measuring ?). We just used 8x4 sheets of ply, on their end and 2 for each side. The roof is corrugated tin because we already had that.

MY other half built me a 18x12 shelter last year. It has 2 6ft wide openings at the front. The only thing I had to buy was the screws and the roofing sheets. The rest was brought home from a building site he was working on (out of the burning pile). Cost about £140 and it fab. All the animals use it.

We have one that was built DIY by my friend 20 years ago. It finally fell over (which I blame on the choice of onduline for the roof), so we took all the timber 5 miles down the road last year and re-built it to a different design, enabling us to discard the small amount of rotten timbers from the lower back corner. Used tin for the roof this time, and fully expect to get another 20 years out of it :)
