I have been on a yard a very long time which is a family kid friendly yard. Nice facilities, close to home. But work is 15 miles away and there is a lovely business ran yard close to work with amazing facilities and paired turnout. AT present I rely on family help to do my horses but circumstances are going to change over the future and I will have to do more for myself. I spend alot of time travelling to and from work sometimes an hour or more. My theory is, if the yard is ten minutes from work then after mucking out and riding the tea time rush will be over or nearly. I visit my current yard about three times a day as a do everything myself and mother my horses a bit. But services can be arranged on the yard near work and im hoping to free up time to do things with my family. Plus that yard is better for competition horses/ facilities. Do I stick with the only thing I know or make the descision to move and take a chance.? Helppppp

What would you do on a weekend though? An hour each way, sounds like it could be a bit of a bind at the weekends, especially if you'll be visiting twice or three times a day.

I have been travelling back and two to yard near work on weekends as my youngster lives out there on grass livery. The staff are very good and contact me straight away if there is a problem and check him twice daily. If this helps. Takes 30 min on a weekend and thete is many routes I can take to get there

30 mins travel twice a day would be too much for me. Think if it was part livery it would be ok- then you could just make one trip. Also if horse I'll or injured could be hard, depends how much the yard would help out.
I drive a lot for work though and sometimes at a weekend prefer not to go far at all!
If you already have one horse there, sounds like you are already committed to it. So if it suits you then go for it!

This could be me . Currently do everything myself and I am waiting on a place on a yard that does part livery. Need to free up time for family and other commitments. I would move . Diy takes over your life .

Sorry I mean the staff check on my youngster twice daily and let me know if anything is wrong. I go once a weekend and take my competition horse with my to use the facilities and visit my baby horse

Give it a go then, see how you get on.
If you leave your current yard in good terms you could always go back if it doesn't work out.
It wouldn't be for me though- I'd do part livery if yard was that far. I must admit mine is now retired at home, so cant get much closer than that! I would go back to my old yard if I had a ridden horse - twenty to forty mins from home depending on traffic- good facilities and fab care (part livery). So probably not the best person to ask!

I appreciate peoples views on this alot. Im torn! If it had been closer I would have moved I think quicker. Bit nervous moving /stabling on a different yard but get to meet new people :)

At least you've had another there for a while, so have experience of the staff, level of care etc.
If you enjoy competing may be a good move - sounds like they are more geared to that, than you current family, kid friendly yard.
If the logistics work for you, give it a go.

Move. I've just gone from DIY to part and it's amazing. Suddenly I have free time I never knew I could have and when I'm at the yard I can actually ride and do the stuff I want to with the horses not just clean up after them. However we picked the yard very carefully.

If you know the new yard and already think that the facilities and routine will suit you and your horse then it's a no brainer imo.
