Help! Can anyone reccommend a reasonable DIY livery yard around the Maidstone area? I'm struggling to deal with the YO at my current yard and it's taking all the fun out of horse ownership :(
I need a school as my Thoroughbred isn't the kind you can just leap on and take out for a hack  Any suggestions welcome! Also any places to avoid would be great - I've learnt the hard way this time and don't want to go through it again! x

I like no drama.

Show barn...snarky darlings with all the attitude you could ever want.

Lesson barn...again, attitude and the behaviour of,"I want it, you have it, I'm using it"...this "borrowing" can range from saddles & brushes to horses. I hate kid yards, have had too much stuff stolen or used. Nothing like uncapping thrush medicine to find it empty or chestnut hair in my brushes...when I don't own a chestnut.

A nice hacking yard full of adults who enjoy their horses and like to have fun. Nothing to prove and minimal attitude and drama.

I am at the bottom yard at Cobham Manor and the top yard which is run by Paul Ryan - The Manor Livery Yard has got a couple of DIY spaces.

They have use of the top school (but not the bottom two and the indoor) which is why their prices are much lower than CMEC. But you still have all the competitions on your door at weekends and it is dead quiet in the week.

Paul is an SJ/Eventing trainer and is doing deals on lessons at the mo too.

Hi, i have a stable in Wormshill, privite yard, my parents, very basic, no school, i talk allot, bit run down, but dad working hard,, can't promise no drama, i am an artist. Also places available at poplar farm, harrietsham. Pm me for number

avoid ash farm in detling like the plague!! used to be here few years ago, its very run down fencing is awlful, schools both flood even in a shower, very high turnover, yard manager if you can call her.... that well i wont say anymore!!!

If you can live without an arena try Magpie Farm, White Horse Hill, Detling. You're allowed to ride in the fields if there's an empty one, there's a bridleway straight off the yard and a large woods half a mile up the road.

I agree with the other poster about Ash Farm.

It's hard finding a good yard in the Maidstone area but i do know of a place at a small yard in Hunton.I don't have the number but if you turn left off Hunton hill at the church and travel along the path to the end you will find a small yard on the left.It has nice stables and arena and good local hacking, and has a small x country course. It is owned by a Doctor who rents it to a woman called Heather. My yard in East Farleigh is just so lovely but sadly no vacancies and none likely to come up.Avoid a yard in East Malling which i think i PM'd you about recently. The owners of that place are nasty and you have to let them use the horse in the riding school as working livery. The faclilities there are crap too, very unsafe arena and badly built stables with no proper upkeep. There is a place in East Farleigh called Ambervale but i would not recommend this as the owner has no idea how to run a yard.Try Street Farm in burham which is near Ayleford as the owner is good and there are lots of riding club events, plus good hacking.
Good luck

Thanks for the advice! Will try street farm! I've also heard bad things about ambervale, and she's always advertising vacancys! I did actually go to look round Heathers yard, however no one really rode up there so I thought I'd probably get a bit bored an lonely always riding on my own!

Hi looking for a place for 14,3hh and was wondering how to get in touch with the bottom yard with the cheaper prices because I can only find CMEC

Thanks:):):D

Hello im in mereworth and we have a diy vacancy , school direct ascess to miles of woodland and ida love some company yard called nothstar farm

Nothing to add other than I feel your pain as it's literally so hard to find a decent yard round here! Have been at street farm and it's a nice yard other than very restricted turnout in winter, think they were allowed 4 hours and had to be in by 3 every day so not ideal if you work lol think detling way will be your best bet

Eta: just realised this thread is 3 years old lol hope your found somewhere
