Canvassing for opinions/experiences please :) How much would people be looking to pay for DIY livery on a smart comp yard?

My experience is that such yards only offer full/part, so am completely clueless.... Thanks in advance :D

There's a yard near me that does this, it's mainly full and part liveries with a few DIYs who pay £185 a month, which includes hay and straw, I think it is reasonable value as the yard has good facilities, two big schools and good hacking.

Thanks so much :) that's the sort of benchmark I was hoping for, I'd like feed to be included as well but not sure how that would work at the moment...

We offer part livery for £50/week but every one just wants DIY even with cost of fuel. I thought this was cheap for making one trip a day to the yard. Any thoughts on this as im not sure if i am on the wrong track or just need to advertise more

Thanks, Hayley, does that include bedding as well? I think £60 might be what the yo needs to make it worthwhile...

TBH it is pretty difficult to find a 'proper' (for want of a better word) competition yard around my way that even does DIY.

There are some nice yards that have some competition horses on them, which would be in the £35-40 per week (no hay, bedding, assistance included).

The only 'proper' competition yard my neck of the woods that does any form of DIY is £90 a week. This includes hard feed, hay and assistance one side of the day, although you are bound by some tight requirements.

I tend to find pro run competition yards have quite a strict routine and it's a case of 'fit in with my way' kind of scenario, which does make DIY more tricky.

Ditto above, you'd really struggle to find diy on a yard with a resident pro, good school etc. There is one that bills itself as offering 'assisted diy' but it's what most people would class as part livery as they do all mucking, turnout etc. Another does still have some diy people but they were resident when the pro moved in and are being replaced only by part or full liveries, plus they have to adhere to the schedule for turnout and feeding or pay for assistance.

Out of curiosity, what would a diy competition yard offer, relative to a normal one? To me the term means that the majority of horses on the yard are on the same program, under the auspices of a single manager and/or professional or training program. If I had my horse on such a yard it would be at least partly so I could be sure everything would run like clockwork.

That is an interesting question Tarr Steps. Round here there are a lot of 'pony-patting' yards which is fine for those that want to do that but very frustrating for those who want to get on and go out for a whole host of reasons. The closest yard to what the OP describes that I can imagine is one of our local BD venues, the run BD and unaffiliated regularly, have regular clinics too but it is all DIY. My yard is similar, we all compete when our horses are not broken, and have regular clinics, I pay £135 a month for this.

There are definitely those who want DIY at a good yard and prepared to pay more for that - whether that means a competition yard or as I have done a yard which mainly does full livery but are prepared to have a few DIY horses. Accordingly you expect to pay more for decent facilities and yes it does perhaps make it difficult if 18 horses at fed at one time and the handful of DIY horses are fed at another time but generally find the DIY ones get fed first.

Our local competition yard charges £70 a week DIY does not include any hay or services!!!

However it is proper competition yard with facilities to match including 3 outdoor schools and 2 indoor school and also tack shop and they run affiliated and unaffiliated SJ Dressage and showing as well as clinics and tend to have several things on every week.

I'm at Kenneth Clawsons on DIY (makes sense as I'm only 5 mins away anyway), I have my hay included plus use of all facilities - walker, indoor, outdoor, full set of jump for joy jumps, heated washbox etc - for £40 a week.

Hope that helps!
