I think I am going to have to think about moving yards..

I have been where I am now for 6+ years, and everything is great - there are nice people, good all year turnout, lovely stables, nice horse walker, BUT the arena is just unrideable now. It is 20x40 and about 80% of the time now, one long side and one short side are too wet and deep to ride on, particulary as the other side stays quite firm; it can do their legs no good at all being worked on such an inconsistent surface. There's about a 10 x 25m area that is ok, but it's not really big enough to get much productive work done. Am really sad, as I love the place but I want to be able to ride! I have always been happy enough to write off a few days a year when it is at its wettest, but there's 5 months of winter still to go! YO doesn't seem to think there is a problem unless there is standing water on the surface. Personally I'd rather splash round a firm waterlogged surface than plough in and out of boggy patches.

Can anyone recommend a good DIY yard near Lighthorne / Moreton Morrell? Any suggestions and rough ideas of costs would be very much appreciated. Thank you

i livery my horse at moreton morrell (im at the collage) but i will be in a similar situation when i finish! all the yards around seem either ridiculously over priced or lacking in facilities :(

I know, where I am is fab, it has everything I want and is reasonably priced. But I have horses because I want to ride so really need the arena more than anything in the winter!

The yard we are at is really nice, low-key, friendly people and a great arena. Last winter we could ride most days as the snow was easy to clear and floodlights are really good. The only downside is that there is limited turnout in the winter (maybe every 2nd day) but I think that is the case with most yards. You can turn out as much as you like in summer.

It doesn't have a website but you can find out more via this site as we are based there www.jameseventing.com

You can just hire a stable from the lady direct though, think it is £35 per week, you can buy hay and straw from her or buy your own shavings.

It is on Manor Lane in Claverdon. I'd recommend it! Hope that helps.:)
