I have just been accepted onto a MSc at Napier Uni for September and I am now seeking Livery for my horse in the Edinburgh area.

It needs to be in the south west area ideally as I will be based at Craiglockhart.
I need
- all year turnout (even if is part of day in the winter)
- stable
- arena

I would prefer DIY but with the option to have her turned out in the morning.

Bonus would be an indoor arena, horsewalker

Cost less than £200 a month, in St Andrews it was £195 and at home paying £85.

Any recommendations for places to go or avoid would be much appreciated.

tower is full or grass but pricey, morton mains or meadowhead are that way,not really that many yards unless your willing to travel a bit more?

Have a look at Swanston, just off the bypass at Hillend ski slope. You can see the fields and shelters from the bypass.

Or Pentland Livery in Damhead, 5 mins from the bypass. It has indoor and outdoor arenas plus a horsewalker, and year-round turn-out.

TBH, anywhere within striking distance of Edinburgh is going to be expensive.

swanston has a waiting list, damhead has a outdoor school and is diy i think, sure pentland is full livery only now, was the last time i spoke to someone who works there.

Tower Farm - no, no, no!
Meadowhead - definitely no, no, no - manager is an interfering witch!
Morton Mains - same reason as above - same person!

Swanston - very nice, have indoor school(s), but used to have a huge waiting list

Pentland House - Full livery only

Damhead - nice stables, outdoor school

Wester or Mid-Kinleith in Currie - seem to be popular and the liveries I know there seem happy

Thank you for the replies, this really doesnt sound very promising. I dont really wont to keep her at home as mum is working full time ( 4x12 hour shifts a week) and the yard cant promise us a stable

wester kinleth over midkinelth 1 million %! but they are otherside of where you want.

Hey Lizzie,

I'm at Napier and have my horses at Morton Mains. It only takes me ten minutes even in really heavy traffic to get there, nice hacking, £108 a month DIY and I have never even met the manager and i've been there for six months. The lady who runs our yard seems really nice.
There isn't a horse walker or an indoor school but there is a nice outdoor school and jumping/lunging paddock and it is very quiet - I have my boys at a little separate bit with four boxes and there's one left for you haha...
