I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of how much this is going to cost...

Potential horse is 15.2, arab type

, so was wondering how much it would cost per week for hard feed, hay and straw, plus extra stuff like shoeing (though horsie only has shoes on front feet), worming, insurance and any other things I've forgotten...

well my horse who is a 16.1 hh eats £28 of hard feed a month £9.95 hifi a month and a bag of sugar beat and he eats 3 bales a week at £2 a bale, he is on shaving and that cost me a £10 a month the shoes are every 6 weeks at £55 and worming is very 3 months at £10 your horse maybe a better doer than mine so you could half the hard feed if you want. Good luck best think i every did was get him dont worry about the money!!

it depends if the horse maintains its weight quite easily and on the type of work it would be doing but as a very rough idea here is what i use for my 15.1hh arab x tb

Summer - out 24-7 with no feed or hay , shoes every 8 weeks £60. (thats for full set though)
Winter- in at night out during the day. Depending on grazing you might need to put hay out in the field.
I use about 1 bale of shavings week (with 4 or 5 to start bed) my horse is clean though. Shavings £5 per bale.
We use large round bales of hay which works out about £5 per week.
Feed- I use Alpha a, kwik beet and pasture mix this works out about £25 per month
Worming every 12 weeks about £18
Insurance is about £15 per month i think

How long is a piece of string...so the saying goes! My cob can cost anything between £300 to £400 and more a month,I'm Guildford based so not far from you here is my breakdown:-
Livery DIY £108.33 per calander month
Hay based winter(not great grazing!) 3 bales aweek £4.50 a bale £13.50
Bedmax at £6.50 approx x 3 bales £19.50
Feed 'Ride and Relax' £7.50 approx/Molichaff £4.00 approx
Shoeing £72.00 every 5-6 weeks
Insurance £66.00 per month
Teeth rasp £30.00 approx once a year
Supplements £38.00 roughly every 6 weeks
Extras £££££££££££ and most likely forgot other things...Oh and flu and tet £80.00 yearly and approx !
God I have frighted myself now....and that don't include the odd rug, saddle cloth and so on that I'm prone to buying him!

im in herts on diy in a yard at 160pcm for indoor / outdoor school and they do turnout. cost 55 shoes, 35 hard feed, 40 hay, 40 bedding teeth 45, insurance 32 month cant think of anything else

When mine was on DIY it cost:

£24pw for stable and grazing
£10pw for hard feed
£10pw for haylage
£12pw for Shavings
£21pw for services (muck out and turn out)

Other costs:

Farrier - £60 full set every 8 wks
Insurance - £40 pm
Worming - £25 every 3 months

I'm now on Full Livery which is £95pw for everything apart from exercising (includes rug cleaning, tack cleaning, grooming absolutely everything!)

I'm South East and things seem to be a bit more expensive here now, but, its something like this.......

Livery £36 per week, £7 for mucking out if needed
Hay £4 per bale (not sure about straw)
Chippings £7
Feed bill per month app £90
Shoes £59
Worming £13-15ish
Insurance DD £42 per month

Mine cost at the moment
£7.50 per horse per week for 5 acres grazing, one stable, tack room, water
about £4.00 week in conditioning cubes
£15 week in hay (bit more in dec and jan but no cost in summer)
£55 every 7 weeks shoes
£5 - £10 month wormer
lots on tack!

I spend stupid amounts on my horse because I am a sucker for pick and purple rugs and anything thats shiny and will make my horse shiny.

Livery costs £65 a month,
I buy a bale of haylege with a friend and we go through 2 a month so thats £15 a month
Straw I use silly amounts, cos I insist on him having a huge fresh bed. Although I am very close friends with the person who I buy straw and haylage off so I get mates rates. I buy straw £2 a bale, so thats probably £20 a month.
I have 2 saddles one Ideal Jessica which cost £750, and a James Sterling which cost about £500.
Bridles x 3 cost about £200, have 2 show and one play one.

Wormer, I worm per season so about £13 a season.

Insurance is £35 a month cos I said he was only worth £2000 a month, I know hes worth a lot more than that, but don't know how much.

Lorry costs are about £22 a month insurance and then petrol and break down cover about £100 a month all together to run the thing.

Thats about it... sure I'v missed something!
