I’ve been making enquiries in the area, to get a feel for livery options next year should I decide to get another horse.

One has quoted £60 per week, to include own field, stables and use of school. This is DIY, extras will be charged as required.
I have another two potentials to visit, but they won’t be drawn on rate before meeting.

Does this sound about right for DIY? I’m totally out of touch, having always rented a field for private use.

I think it totally depends on area. I'm paying that per month on the yard I'm on, and very aware of how cheap it is and how lucky I am as the yard is fab!

I've paid anywhere between £25-£35 per week and would say that's around the average sort of price for a basic set up. However, I don't begrudge paying more to get onto the 'right' yard for my horses.

Sorry not a weekly computation: but I run a DIY yard in Devon.

Livery A: has about 5 acres of cordoned-off pasture plus a roomy area of hard standing & American barn-style shelter which doubles as a storage area plus tack-room, etc. She has mains electricity & water. She pays £160 pcm.

Livery B: has just under 4 acres and has a field shelter & room for feed/hay storage. She is completely independent from the main yard area (where livery A is) and is totally self-contained. Mains water but no electricity. She pays £100 pcm.

Both liveries have freedom to use Strip-grazing or Track to suit them. Both have elected to use the Track system.

Hope this helps.

What area? Aberdeen - diy can vary from £35 to £80 a week, some including hay + bedding, and possibly a turn out or take in
