Hi Everyone,

My friend is in the process of buying a house near the A33 in Basingstoke. Currently she has 2 horses who are kept in Yateley which she would like to look at moving closer to her new home.
Does anyone know of any friendly DIY yards near this area?
She would need at least one stable as her older horse needs to be stabled during the winter, but both will be turned out 24/7 in the summer.

Thank you for reading and for your help

There are some lovely DIY yards out Stratfield Saye way . . . one run by a lady called Wendy Small (I'll see if I can dig up the details), another by Graham Best and another called Chitty Farm (near Silchester).

Thing is, we need to know a little more . . . how far does she want to travel, what gender/size are her horses, what sort of hacking does she require, does she need a school - what other facilities, does she want mixed/individual/etc grazing?

Hi,

thank you for replying so quickly :)

Here is a little bit more info,

Her older horse is a 15.1 hh 22 yr old Section D gelding, her younger one is a 16.2 hh 5yr old ISH mare.
She would be happy for them either to be turned out in a field together or as they are at the moment in a boys and girls field respectively.

We currently have a school and would definitely like one at the new yard as Heidi is pretty green. Hacking is also important as Huxley the older one can't do as much school work anymore.

She has a sharer which is me :) so the yard would need to be ok with this.

As for the stable situation I know she would like 2 stables but as I mentioned previously one is a must for Huxley.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask any more questions

many thanks for your help :)

Forgot the distance , I think she would like to be towards Reading as thats where she'll be working so can do the horses to and from work. Probably looking around the 15 minute drive mark.

:)

That helps :). Do you guys mind roadwork to get to off-road hacking? How are the horses on country lanes with a decent amount of farm traffic?

P

OK . . . so depending on budget there are a few that fit your criteria . . . we do currently have space at our yard - it's in Eversley w/in easy access to the A33 about half way between Reading and B-stoke. We have NO roadwork b/c we have direct access to Bramshill Forest, a decent-sized school, secure tack-room and separate feed/hay barn. Close to us is Brick House Farm, also in Eversley . . . and then there's Greenacres Farm (also in Eversley and on the A329 direct road to Reading). Nearer Reading there's Hall Place and Heathlands. I would highly recommend Burley Lodge but they don't do DIY so won't suit you.

They're pretty good,
Heidi is the more unknown as she hasn't done much yet, but they live on a farm at the moment which has a small industrial site behind it. This means they see lorries and heavy veichles all the time.
We also sometimes have to walk across the farm and past all the machinery to get to a hacking route.
Huxley I know is very good in traffic.

Thank you for all your help :)
