Can anyone recommend any DIY yards within about five miles of Letchworth/Baldock?

I would like somewhere with a school and all year turnout. If there is 24 hour turnout in the summer that would be even better as it seems most places around here won't allow that.

Thanks.

The one down pedley lane in shefford has a good reputaion, facilities are a fair standard. Think it is individual grazing though. I can see the ponies from my window :)

Lovely family run, I have taught many students who keep theirs there - never heard a bad word other than from a girl who didn't like individual t/o.

Bump
Unfortunately the one in Pedley Lane is too far time-wise.

Does anyone know of anything in Wymondley or Gravely apart from Chesfield?

North Herts EC? Ickleford Riding centre. Both of these have a school but not sure what the turn outs like. Theres DIY yard at Nortonbury but no school just field to ride in.

What about Flying Cat in Royston. Is that too far? I would imagine turnout is more restricted but it has a very good reputation and facilities

Thank you, I don't know flying cat so I'll see how far it is.

I like Chesfield but I think their assisted DIY is £60 per week which is too much as I don't need the horse turning out and bringing in. Shame it's not cheaper and provides just turnout or bring in.

There is one between Weston & Graveley. It has a school but no idea re turnout or what it's called. I used to hack past it on my way to Chesfield from Baldock. That was aaaages ago, so not sure if it's still there.

There is another yard between Weston & Halls Green, up a lane with a white gate. My friend used to keep hers there a looooong time ago. Might be worth asking. I am fairly sure it has a school. Not sure if it still does livery or if it's just private now. Fab hacking & tons of turnout if it does!

Mine used to live on my grandfather's farm on the Buntingford Rd before the Baldock bypass got built thru the middle, which is no help to you.

Thank you. I'll have a drive over there at the weekend and see what I can find. Although I've lived in the area for years, I don't really know any horsey places!

Hi I'm at a yard in Sandon, think that's about 5 miles from baldock. All year turnout, indoor, outdoor school, horsewalker, inc haylage and straw, services, lovely people..... I've been very very happy there......

Is there any chance you would mind PMing me the name of the yard and roughly how much it is? I don't know the area well so only know of one yard in Sandon which is Mill End. Mill End looks lovely but I had previously written it off as too far away, but I've been rethinking and if I can find somewhere that's friendly, good turnout and is reliable but not too expensive with their services I could probably go a bit further out.

Hi it is Mill End. I looked around for ages for DIY yards before moving here and I've been very very happy. Personally I'd drive an extra mile or two for peace of mind...... :D

Thank you - it looks lovely. I think you're right, and also so much time and money goes into keeping a horse that I want to be at a yard where I can actually enjoy my horse.

A very desperate bump

I do need services sometimes (mainly in winter), so should probably have put in the title assisted DIY would also be an option

Comet! I can't help recommend anywhere but just thought I'd ask (to help bump up if nothing more) why you are struggling? Is it just that everywhere is full or do you have particular requirements that these yards aren't fulfilling? As I said I don't know the area but thought perhaps people could advise if it is just the yards don't match up to your requirements :)

It's just lack of yards I think and I don't know the area well so despite driving around I am struggling to find anywhere. Every yard that I have found that does assisted DIY has a waiting list. I am waiting for two to phone me back that I left messages with today, and two others that I emailed last week, but I think the fact they haven't replied probably just means no vacancies.

Only requirements are a decent school with floodlights, turnout and the option for services when needed.
