DIYers - what time do you bring in / turn out?

thats early.....our yard isnt open at that time! the only time Ive ever been there at that time is for show prep.....with the YOs permission of course!

Mine go out around 7 every day, give or take 30 mins each way. Ideally I don't fetch in til about 6 but with one on box rest, the other has been coming in before dark this last week or so as they are always the last 2 left out (most on assisted livery) and can't risk fireworks starting when he is out alone. He's fine with them when has company but that plus being alone wouldn't be a good idea!

i like mine to be out as long as possibly, so when they do have to come in i will put myself out to minimise there stabled time, turn out is usally 7am and bringing in about 5pm

theres a lady on the yard who drives me nuts, thought nothing of bringing her horses in at 4pm on friday night and they were still stood there at 2pm saturday afternoon!! each long finished the one haynet they had been left with, and bedded down on shavings so couldnt even pick at there beds!! i got back from yard today at 11.30am- there horses were out last night and still no one had been up to check on them yet today- i know this as one horses rug has a strap undone and it remains so!

drives me nuts! i couldnt lay in bed knowing my horses are stood in waiting for me!

Well I am not strictly a DIYer as I rent a field and have a field stable. But I turn out at 5.30am and bring in between 6 and 7pm all year round. I like him to have lots of turnout!

Mornings vary depending on whether I'm riding or not, but horse has to be back in by 5pm so that the liveries who live out can have their overnight hay put out before its too late.

My horse is on assisted DIY during the week (minimum package offered) and the yard managers normally turnout at 9 (we can choose turnout or bring in and most days I have turnout because I have work and the school run). The reason they do assisted minimum is because they don't like people walking up the fields in the dark ( I know people do I've done it at all my previous yards but this one has this rule) so they are all back in by 4. It's not necessarily what I would do if it was my decision but it is a great yard where my horse and I are very happy so I follow the same routine at weekends because again they must all be in before dark.

No rules at my yard.

Mine are always out by 6am during the week and back in about 6pm. At the weekend they are out by 7am and back in about 6pm. This is only in the winter as they live out 24/7 the rest of the year. Do feel that they need plenty time out to be horses rather than being locked up in a stable. Even in the heaviest snow I've made sure they get out as don't think it's good for them to be stood in.

Mine get turned out about 9.30 and (now the clocks have changed) come in at about 4.30pm weekdays and weekends. When clocks go forward they don't come in till about 6pm until they get turfed out for the summer.

Out weekdays anywhere between 7-9.30 depending on working patterns. In any when between 3-7 again depending on working patterns.
Weekends out anywhere between 8-9.30, bring in when I can be bothered.

They are used to spending a lot of time in their stables so they don't care if they don't go out.

Out between 6.30 & 7.30, in between 6 & 7. I do usually stick around the same times, but it varies with stuff like riding, snow, other commitments etc. However if in the evening I'm busy at that time, I'll nip up & hay in the field earlier then bring in later. One Sunday daughter had to be somewhere at 8am, so went up & put hay in at 7am then went back at 9 to turn out.
Mine like being out, so I don't have a problem with people who only turn out 11-3. What I do object to though is when 11am is when horse first seen to in the morning, & its done for the night by 3pm. Especially if said horse gets hayed/turned out 6am weekdays. Same with bringing in, I know someone who gets in at 6 most nights. Over xmas they have a few weeks off & bring in & finish off at 3pm. Then wonder why when they return to work the horse is at the gate at 3pm.

Weekdays they go out at 7am and stay out until 5pm. On my days off 80% of the time the YO will turn them out at 7am, sometimes if she is not there then they will stay in until 9-9.30am as I'm exhausted by then and need to sleep, but they always have something to eat and they stay out later so their time in the field isn't compromised.

Sold my horse about 5 weeks ago for uni, but had him on DIY, and during the week I would turn out at 7.15 before school/college all year round.
During summer bring in around 6-7pm, then during winter everyone brought in from about 3.30pm onwards- which was a bit of a struggle for me as I often couldn't get to the yard til half 5 due to college commitments, and my boy wasn't keen on being left out- I called in a lot of favours with the girls at the yard during winter :o
During weekends and hols it was all a bit later (maybe up to an hour and a half). Always made sure to leave him with more hay/haylage so he wouldn't run out and be standing hungry/bored though.

Agree that coming down and turning out at 11am only to bring in again at 3pm and put away for the night is not very nice.

Both living out so no times at present but if they do due to ground/grazing then it will be determined what shift I'm on.

Earlies (6.30am start 1pm finish)

Horses fed and turned out at home yard just after 5am
Horses fed and turned out at friends just after 6am (next to work)

Horses brought in about dinner time on both yards.

Lates (1.30pm start 7.30pm finish)

Horses fed and turned out about 9am at home yard
Horses fed and turned out about 10/11am at friends yard if she hasnt already done so normally ride in tha AM

Horses brought in at dinner time on friends yard
Horses brough in about 8.30pm at home yard.

Turned out between 7-8 am and then brought in at about 6-6.30 during the week and any time from when its dark at the weekend, only two of us and 3 horses though and we both get to the yard at about the same time in the week so thats handy and horses fit in arround life at the weekends.

I do object to horses not seen to until 2pm (as some did on yard at uni ) or those seen to once a day, turned out whilst owner mucks out and then put back in until she could be bothered to come back down the next day :(.

Weekdays: turnout @ 6.30am, bring in @ 4.30pm
Weekends: turnout @ 7.30am , bring in @ 4.30pm

Yard rules, but it means I have enough time to do both before work and then have brekkie so suits me :)

During the week:
Out at 6am - back in around 6pm

Weekends:
Depends on if Im riding or not but usually out around 9/10 back in deoending what I've got on that night (if brought back in at all) :D

YO turns out for me in the morning Monday to Friday, so he's out by 8.30, weekends i turn him out same sort of time (no horses are turned out before this) and now we've got the rule to save the fields that they have to be in by 3 every day, in the summer they stay out later

Mine goes out at 8 and comes in at 6 on weekdays (due to worok). On a weekend I try not to go down any later than 9 in the morning to muck out or turn out and then he comes in about 5ish.

Weekdays horse out by 7.00 - brought in from around 3.30 - 4.00 during the winter. Weekends later out, because I ride first - so usually out by 10.30/11.00.

When he's turned out . . . still in while his mud fever heals - sigh . . . GreyDonkey goes out no later than 8.30 and comes in at about 3.00'ish in the winter and about 5.00'ish in the summer.

He is one of the last to go out . . . most are out by 7.00.

I am on part diy - yard staff turn out at about 10am and I bring in between 4-5pm.

All horses must be in overnight during winter, which i dont mind as horses are always lined up at the gates come about 4pm - if you leave one behind even for a moment they go crazy to come in.

Our horses are all fed at 6ish by YO or me depending on who gets there first - YO lives on site but its only me and them.

Mine are out at 630 weekdays or 700 if im lungeing before work.

In winter they are brought in at 330 - 4 after clocks change, and rehayed and skipped out and fed at 630-7. Before the clocks changed they were brought in 530 ish if being ridden, or 630 - 7 if not.

Summer they either stay out or come in at 7 - 8 pm

Weekends I try to be at yard for 8 - never later than 9. They are ridden first so go out between 10 and 11 ish.

Bringing in time stays same.

If for any reason I will be an hour later on day off during week or whatever YO (farrier, vet etc) will bung some hay in, as I will do same for them. We are pretty good at getting in at same times but have 2 each so not an issue.
