F - thank you

L_D - and so it goes on. I'd have been happier if her teeth had been done today, but at least I still have her, and Wednesday will come round soon enough
smile.gif
. Thank you.

C - thank you
smile.gif
. We've gone through sorts of feed recommendations, but thank you for the thought (she won't eat anything sloppier than her entire feed mixed with sugarbeet/soaked oats). Once her pegs are sorted, we'll give what she's on a chance to work then re-assess
laugh.gif
. So glad to hear your girl has come good

She looks a lot better.
Forgive me for being thick, but would it be an option to grind some hard feed that you'd like to feed her but can't feed her at present because her teeth won't cope with it, in a coffee grinder to get it to the right size pieces and mix with the rest of her food?

AR - ta, have taken all feed advice on board, talked to all the manufacturers, and this is the optimum that we've come up with so far. She's only been on this combination for a couple of weeks, and with her pegs not grinding it down properly it's not quite a waste, but close
blush.gif
. Ho hum.

The feed isn't stopped 'just because she is on grass'! It's stopped because she is a stress head and the excitement of coming in counteracts the little good she's getting from the feed given the state of her teeth - if she can't grind it to 4mm or less, then her gut can't deal with it and it comes out the other end practically unused
frown.gif
cool.gif
.

And yes, it costs two arms and four legs to feed her, but hubby is very understanding, and I like beans on toast

Oops, sorry for offending you - I guess I just came across very differently from how it sounded in my head...

I didn't really mean 'just because she's on grass' - it's just from my very limited horse knowledge my stresshead needs a strict routine to minimise problems but although I've seen in your posts that her teeth need done again I didn't realise the extent of the wasted food as a result because I know you had her teeth done just a few months ago...

You always do the best for her anyway & my view was only a subjective 'I wouldn't' but again sorry for causing offense!

Oooh, just seen this! No offence taken at all!
grin.gif
Blasted text/typing/thing, comes out wrong some times
blush.gif
. Have a hot choccy, with all the trimmings
cool.gif
.

Her pervious owner had her teeth done last September. I got her in December. Started looking for a dentist as wasn't too keen on the one I'd used before for the other neds, then Dizz started dribbling food, so stepped up the search! YO arranged for hers to come out, who just happens to be one of the best in the country (from what I've heard from othe sources
smile.gif
). This is the one who was due to power tool her teeth today, but vet couldn't make it
frown.gif
.

I didn't know until the other week that the food has to be ground to 4mm or less or it's effectively wasted. Love this world, learn something new ever day
grin.gif
.

Dizz is a stress head when she's in if I'm around, unless I'm standing with her/doing things with her
blush.gif
. Just being in a stable is stresses her to some extent: she's in tonight to have a break from the flies/wind/rain, etc., and because she has to learn that stables are not bad places to be
smile.gif
. As to routine, we tried that, but it doesn't make any difference to her, she knows I'll come and always comes to me in the field and whinnies when she hears me, plus with my job, it's hard to have a routine that lasts for more than three days at a time
frown.gif

So, lots of
grin.gif
. We'll get there with time
grin.gif
and some of the patience stuff K was talking about

Don't stick it all in the liquidiser at once!!! Otherwise you'll get that burnt out electrical smell. Just try an inch or inch and a half, just to the top of the blades, and see how it goes.

And warn hubby it's NOT for making porridge for breakfast

. Hm. It will be interesting to see her when she's sedated... She's such a big soft head that when she's dopey she'll look even more like a teddy bear

Wow Dizzy looks so much better, I can really see the improvement. Just a thought, if she is a stress head and she picks at her food, could she have ulcers? It just comes into my mind as Dougal is a type to get ulcers (Sports Horse type) although not got them, but I feed him low starch high fibre food's plus protexin to keep his system in order.

She looks so totally cute I love Dizzy pics.

B_B - Ta hun! I sat and peered so closely at them last night, asking hubby what he thought of this and that angle
cool.gif
. If I could just get her back to how she was when I got her in December (bottom piccy), I'd be happy for now. Ho hum
smile.gif
.

Hadn't thought of ulcers. Hm. Will ask vet today, along with m'ask about liver. Bet she says, 'Wait and see once her teeth are done'...

A definite improvement! On the right road, when they won't eat it's a nightmare. I had one who took all night to eat her tea, breakfast just didn't happen with her despite it being put in over an hour before she went out. Fortunately she did fairly well on a-lib haylage!

NN - Thank you, and Indeed!
blush.gif
. She wasn't interested in food this morning: after two days in, she just wanted to be out! And, after a few days in the fields and being left to chill, she's also left her manners somewhere
blush.gif
. The joys of being young lol. A few minutes ground work and she was back to being a good girly.

Interesting re. haylage. I thought she'd be very keen on it, but nooooo, ingnored the half full nets and dived for the hay I had out for Little Lad. Ho hum.

Query-is there a reason she is being exercised? As would have thought rest and Dr Green would be the best idea?

T - Ta nicely
grin.gif

S - Yup. Are you sitting comfortably ('cos it's a long one, but I'll try and keep it short
smile.gif
):

She was backed Spring '08. Schooled Summer '08. I got her 20/12/08. 01/01/09 she went down in the field (we think, maybe the splits). Vet could not pinpoint the issue. Sent to Rossdale's at Newmarket January. Diagnosis: Bony Irregularities in the pelvis; secondary damage to both rear suspensory ligaments (minor damage).

By this point she wasn't lame any more. We needed her lame so the SLs could be nerve blocked, then we'd know which was causing her pain, the pelvis or the SLs. So, she came home for me to make her lame
frown.gif
. This was to be achieved as a by-product of a fittening programme. So far, no lameness - the Newmarket vet says she hasn't read the text book! Slight problem in that she came back looking like a coat rack - I cried when I saw her (and there were a fair few swear words included). She gets stressed when she's away from her people, and being a young and light bobbo anyway, she didn't have much to lose!

Anyhoooo, the plan is to get her fit. Once she is reasonably fit, we then re-assess. Then we aim for a higher level of fitness. All the time, watching and assessing. The fitness, and accompanying muscle tone will help to hold her together.

As a side issue, she was bought to BSJA. I paid a fair amount and if she isn't going to BSJA, then I'd like to claim LOU. I can't claim LOU until I can prove she cannot jump, which I can't do until she is fit enough and strong enough to ask to jump. Given her long legs (she's 16.3hh and still growing), she doesn't really jump until well over three feet.

The back man wants her fittening up and some muscle on her as well. It will, as the vets say, help to hold her together. She's a big rangy girl, so all the help she can get is more than welcome.

She was being ridden six days a week, but as she was failing to gain weight, despite what I was feeding, I cut it back. Told the vet what was happening (we have regular discussions), and she concurred.

It's a bit of a juggling act at the moment, between feeding and exercising. Can't wait 'till her teeth are done! She hasn't been ridden for a week and a half now whilst waiting for the teeth.
smile.gif

Wow, and that was the 'short' version - hot choccy and cookies
