Hi all,

Has anyone had to do a DNA test because there insurance has asked for it, if so who did you go to (UK)?

I know there is the wisdom panel but in the terms and conditions it says for personal use only unless authorized for any other use.

Many thanks

I would guess that due to the breeds of dog yours is they want to check it’s not a banned breed as they may not insure them.

Having said that, I’m not sure a dna test will clarify that in any way as the banned list includes “type” not a specific genetic breed.

In your shoes I would aim to insure elsewhere.

No way!?

Is that what your insurance have asked for?

What do you believe the dog to be?
Yes because my vets have put her down as the wrong breed and I obviously got it changed when I spoke to my insurer and because they've seen this there asking me for a DNA test to prove that she isn't an American staffy as it's an excluded breed for this insurer! We believe her to be a Staffordshire Bull terrier x American bulldog (Johnson) we saw her mum and dad as we got her as a puppy!

Yes they want to make sure she isn't an American staffy as this is an excluded breed. I wanted to avoid this as I probably have pre existing conditions and she's 7 years now so she'd be harder to insure :(

Apologies I misunderstood your post, I thought you were asking why. I didn’t read carefully.

I would ask the insurer to clarify which tests they accept as proof.
